Living room help
Need help on what style of chairs to put in front on bay window. I have a leather ottoman that I need to keep in this room. Do I use the ottoman as a table in between chairs? Or, just push it off to the side?

sandeepayne I would place 2 slipper style chairs in the bay window area. It appears that the other furnishings in the room are quite simple and neutral. With that being the case, I suggest choosing a fabric for the chairs that has a nice pattern. The colors can stay neutral, if your not a 'color person', but a large scale print or pattern would make the bay window a pretty focal point in the room.

As for the ottoman, it can be used as a table between, but I would prefer to see a small round table to complement the curve of the bay window. My first thought is a glass top style

Hope that helps. :-)

Stanton Designs-online design services What style would you like? What style is the rest of your home? Everyone has different tastes in styles so it is hard to suggest not knowing yours!

Manon Floreat I like the gentle slope on the arm of this chair. I think it's a nice compliment to the curves of the bay window. I would get a proper table for the chairs to share, rather than using the ottoman. This glass topped number would be a nice light reflector for the bay.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design One of the things you need to determine is whether these chairs need to be super comfortable for somethiing such as reading or watching TV. Or maybe they are to be used for extra seating at a party. If that's the case, they can be elegant chairs that if they are comfortable is a bonus. They could also be an unusual looking chair that's not great on comfort but you love it anyway.

The first chair below offers both beauty and comfort. The second chair is what I call a 45 minute chair. It's high on looks but not so high on comfort.

It would be helpful if you let us know how the chairs will be used.

Cabell Design Studio Hello gschraft,

One of our favorites is the Eton Chair by Hickory Chair. Lovely lines, small and comfortable and modern enough to work with what you have already. Of course, if just for looks, then you might think about this fun one as well....

Best of luck with your decorating and please let us know if we can be of any assistance,

Kobey Get some color in there. It's so dark. Wing chairs would be an overkill, too formal. Keep it light like Elizabeth Cabell's style suggests.

karen paul interiors Otis Swivel Chair A small scale swivel is always nice if you want to keep your view or a small scale pull-up chair such as this one by Mitchell-Gold. Fleming Chair - Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams

Gabberts Design Studio I would suggest a pair of swivel chairs so they can be functional in the room. A slimmer profile would work best to not take up too much space in the nook.

E. Miles Custom Builder, Inc. Also, have you considered hanging sheers in front of the windows in the bay?

Digital Imaging by Tina - Interior Designer I’d break up the brown a little and incorporate some lighter tone colors into the space. Houzz “Digital Imaging by Tina” www.brentsinteriorpainting.com

Kelly Carolyn...I loved the Lyon Chair..what are your thoughts on using two of the exact same chairs? Is it more "now" to use slightly different chairs that compliment one another (if so what would you suggest for the Lyon's mate...or do you think 2 of the same is that way to go?

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design I'm so glad you liked that lovely French chair, Kelly, and I would definitely do two of them. Do check what size the chairs are and measure where you are going to put them. You could do newspaper cutouts to see how they would fit, and then you'll also know how much space you have left for the table between them. That same style chair comes from different companies in different sizes, and the style of the chair is called a bergere.

gschraft I liked the chair that Manon posted. I ordered two chairs of the one listed below. I'm thinking its close to Manon's chair. I also bought blue pillows to add color to the room. Chairs arrive next week.

Design Within Reach Hi gschraft,

Beautiful space! I think that little nook is calling for two armchairs to create a comfortable reading space. I think that two armchairs and a side table tucked in the middle will not only complete your room, but will make it more inviting to visitors.

I have created a 3D drawing of your space with this idea. Find it here - http://dwr.mydeco.com/3d-design/design-dilemma/4264597/

Best of luck with your room, I’m looking forward to see how it turns out!

Best,

Brenda Sjoberg I would build a sitting area using soft cushions in pastel colours. Same idea as Tina, but give the heavy curtains a miss.
