Your Pick for Best Paint for Kitchen Cabinets?
I've heard good things about Rustoleum Transformation kit and a few other brands/types here and there. I'm considering getting new maple doors (unfinished) and will be painting the new doors plus the cabinet boxes. What do you all think is a really good product? I plan to sand lightly, prime, and then paint 2 coats (3 if necessary). I would be painting over currently stained oak frames and "wood-like" cheap sides. Please mention good primers for this project as well. Thanks a lot!!

julie77777 Oh! And I forgot .... very important .... this is not for a quick fix for resale or anything like that. I am willing to pay for a very good paint and primer that will LAST!!! I don't want to think about doing anything else to these cabinets for 12-15 yrs :) So maybe we will have the doors professionally done (sprayed/dipped/sealed/etc), but I need to do the rest myself.

fromny2nc I haven't did my kitchen but I used General Finishes Gel Stain on all my other bathroom cabinets to change my old Oak to deep espresso colored cabinets. They look awesome and it was super easy! I have heard good reviews on rustoleum transformations but the General finishes Gel Stain is another great option!

karen paul interiors I would suggest you have it done professionally with a pigmented lacquer which needs to be sprayed. If this is for the long haul then I would spend the extra dollars for a professional job.

julie77777 If we paint, I will have the doors & drawer fronts professionally done and plan to paint the frames/boxes myself. Just need to find an excellent primer and paint.

Rockin' Fine Finish If price isn't an issue Fine Paints of Europe one of best finishes money can buy. Next step down Benjamin Moore satin impervo both companies carry primers for both of these paints. And if you are looking for a green product c2 cabinet and trim these are all great paints that will last a long time looking good and will be durable

shaunaqw I used Rustoleum to paint my cabinets solid white-- I would not recommend it for that use (currently I am repainting!!). The darker kits might be fine, and if you want to do the "effect" then that's a solid way to do it. But it's a stain, not a paint. The wood shows through the white paint-- I used 3 coats, and there's still a greyish tinge. Not to mention, the urethane coat shows yellow in the corners where it collects (my cabinet doors have a beadboard back), and hasn't protected the paint very well. It's been about 4 months, and it's starting to bubble a bit where moisture is getting in. Overall... not very impressed! I'm not willing to shell out the $$ for a pro job, so I am repainting with Ben Moore Advance-- it's supposed to be great, very durable/washable-- has been good on our trim so far and the results in the kitchen thus far are fantastic! Highly recommend.
