Need to update this Santa Fe bathroom
This Santa Fe bathroom was built with lots of mexican tile. The tub is hige but takes up a lot of space as built. I could install a free standing tub but what would I do with the rest of the space currently occupied by the tub and surrounding platform. The room needs a total makeover but I don't even know where to start!

PYRAMID DESIGN GROUP You are talking about a complete gut renovation of the bathroom. Lookat houzz bathrooms to get a basic idea or your likes and dislikes then you should hire a local designer who has expetience in this type of work. They can also suggest a genneral contractor who will take care of demolition, plumbing, electrical, etc, etc.

Jane Antonacci Interior Design Yes! do a freestanding vessel type tub in that space after you tear out all the tile. You have tall ceilings so do a higher arch for the door way. New cabinets in either very dark or white, depending on what you like. Individual mirrors over each large sink. In Santa Fe, a split face limestone wall behind the tub would be beautiful, especially if you go with a higher window. Do an arch and match the height of the new arched door way, which should end about 12" below the ceiling. Use all white for tub, toilet and sinks and nickel faucets. That would be a great start. Then get back to me for more!

shayj64 Hi! I just read through your dilemma regarding the bathtub taking up so much space. You have several options when it comes to your overall space plan. If you are planning to keep the same footprint of the bathroom (same overall floor plan) than you could incorporate a graphic tile design in the floor in that space. It would be a great WOW feature that you could use to incorporate colors you are planning to use throughout the room. If you would like to have something a little more functional, try an round or oval shaped ottoman in the center of the floor. This would function as a seat while dressing or as a place to set things.

Jane Antonacci Interior Design Is that the toilet or the shower to the right of the tub? You could do a water closet if it is the toilet and then have the freestanding tub.

Overland Remodeling & Builders You have spacious bathroom and a lot of options. Ask yourself, what would you like to have in the new bathroom that you don't have in the current one? What style you want the new bathroom to look like? Browse through pictures here on houzz and them to an Ideabook, then go over your Ideabook and start narrow it down to the style you feel the most comfortable with (the elimination process always works), then I'm sure you will have a better picture on how you want your bathroom to look.
