judy Thanks, The bedroom set is very old pristine mahogany, I do not want to do anything but clean it. Saw some nightstands online that have a very shiny silver finish that has been glazed, but don't know how to upload them. Silver it is.
carole was not suggesting you do,its lovely and should not be changed, but the silver cabinet was why i picked the picture....oh,and because i liked the darker wall too...
Barbara Griffith Designs Love the bed..and yes on a silvery night table..be sure it is large enough. However, the 3 pieces over the bed are way too small. Choose a pair of much larger (wider-taller) pieces of metal, or pictures. Choose your bedding before you choose a wall color. Look at this for a bedside cabinet http://www.amazon.com/Southern-Enterprises-OC9167-Mirrored-Cabinet/dp/B004BSF818/ref=pd_sim_sbs_hg_1
Keitha The nightstands that Barbara recommended are great ! I guess I'm a little confused about what you are looking for. . Do you plan to keep your existing bed and purchase new nightstands?
DIAspoton about silver with crystal knobs. save the bedspread for special times if you really love it. can't tell you how many linens my dogs and cats ruined before i wised up.
judy Keitha, just want to paint my nightstands, there are two. Bought metallic silver, have Martha Stewart black coffee glaze. They have been primed, and i just painted them Heirloom White, so a little cleaning and sanding and...
JWinteriors I'm not sure if you know how to silver leaf...but it is so easy and would look so much better than paint. Then, add crystal knobs. I would go to a glass company with the top dimensions and have them cut and polish glass for you to put on top. This will protect your finish and add its own shine. Cost is about $20 each.
judy My "theme" was white on white, with small touches of black. As the furniture is dark my theory is that it will stand out. i have two large blue and white "temple jars", but they seem too big for the nightstands, the room is very small or odd.
oneofeleven the night stands are lovely, the only suggestion I would make is to move the jewellery cabinet as it detracts from the clean look of the nightstands.
judy The jewelery cabinet is there to cover up the television cable poking through the wall that my renters just had to have installed there. Thanks for the suggestion.
Keitha Judy, I think your nightstands will look great with the antiqued silver that you describe. Could you snap a picture of those temple jars sitting on the nightstand. They sound rather intriguing???
mainstreetschool You can get solid wall covers to put over the cable connection. Home Depot or Lowe's has them with switch plate covers. White ones will blend into wall. If you are going to paint them, why not pick an accent color and punch them up! Check the DIY projects for ideas on Houzz.
oneofeleven I think the lamp is too small in scale for the size of the bed. Lamps in the same colours as your temple jars would look great. I know you didn''t ask but the three pieces over the bed are too small as well and they distract from the lovely bed.
carole like the jars, see what you mean about not enough space,as your lamps are there too,but if you are going to change the wall, why not have a shelf and put them on there?
Keitha Judy, I like the temple jars. They would be great wired up as lamps or just used as accessories in the room as Carole suggested... Maybe display something like this?? Accents of blue/white toile would look nice throughout the room.... Love the plates over the bed in this pic.
oneofeleven I think your nightstands are "sexy" and would look nice with clear glass/crystal knobs. If you decide to change your bedside lighting maybe take a look at wall mounted fixtures with blue toile shades and some of those blue plates over the bed , this would really make the bed pop! I'll look around and get back to you.
GARY FINLEY, ASID you have a lovely mahogany headboard, it looks like one from KINDLE and it is very traditional, the french bed side chest is totally a different character, so have fun with it or use it elsewhere
GARY FINLEY, ASID the bedside chests are so good looking and the silver paint would not be my choice next to her white bed covering......they look like Z Gallery now .....
judy Gary, the bed is from the 40's as is the chest of drawers and the vanity. I have had them since my parents "upgraded" in the 60's. The nightstands are now painted silver.
GARY FINLEY, ASID Great...I love the bed ...is it STATTON cheery? I'm just not a fan of using 18th Century English styles with 18th Century French styles....it's all good
judy Gary, they just say 2500, 2501 mahy, i think that is the number assigned to the wood pieces on the backs. The nightstands, i just wanted some advice on how to paint them, knew they could never match the bedroom set. Would you glaze them? Black knobs? was thinking ring pulls.
MAGGIE FLOWERS INTERIOR DESIGN LTD If it were a project of mine this is what I would do. First of all take the jewelry chest out from the corner, the angled placement intrudes on the space. I would paint the night stands black so they harmonize with the bed and pillows. use crystal hardware and fine a medium size clear crystal lamp for each side. The more color you use in a small space, the smaller it becomes visually.
judy Thanks maggie, you are 24hrs late, i painted them silver, i think they will do fine, i have a few black painted pieces in this townhouse. Like your page, not trying as hard as some decorators, just tasteful.
judy one of eleven, Thanks they look nice, but I'm done for now, just ordered "diamond" shaped crystal knobs for the nightstands, and after glazing they look very nice. Will post when i get the knobs.
Oh...and I like what you've done with the nightstands! What will you do for knobs/pulls? If you mentioned it, I missed it.
