What color do I paint moldings?
I am building a townhouse. The painter wants to know if I want semigloss or satin white paint on the waynes coating, molding, and doors, Do I want pure white to be safe?

Matt Patterson Custom Homes White is boring. Shiny is out. Go satin FOR SURE. Some homes I build I do darker mouldings and lighter walls. Take a look at iga crewel work for walls and smokey gray for trim. Very rich.

olldbobbi I would choose white semi-gloss for everything. White is universal, it will go with whatever color walls you choose now and in the future. Semi-gloss is the best for washability if you don't want to be constantly repainting.

Tanya Dick If you're talking crown molding, white will get lost in the white ceilings. A little color on them brings out the contours nicely. Have you considered a natural wood stain instead?

feeny If you are worried about white crown molding not showing up against a white ceiling, then paint the ceiling a 50% reduction of the wall color. White painted trim is timeless and goes with everything, as does off-white or ivory trim if you prefer a softer look.
