Want a light to medium colored stain for wood cabinets in kitchen
I am having cabinets built and am interested in light brown or medium light brown stained cabinets for kitchen have already picked new venetian granite what color would you suggest

eagledzines It depends on the color and shade of the other elements in the room. Whether you go light or medium is not as critical as the actual color of the stain as well.

vixon6306 What elements would you mean

eagledzines Flooring and walls. Cabinet makers often have their own blends of stains. I used to have a color card of basic colors, but any color can be mixed to match if you want to match something. I named the color the name of the customer and kept their particular formula in my records. You should be able to get a sample on the wood that will be used. If you could get a sample of the granite, wall color, flooring, and take it to the cabinet maker, that would enable them to present a sample color.

eagledzines It appears, at least on my screen, that there is some of the same color of the medium light Alder in the granite, but it doesn't appear to be the predominant color that I see when I look at the granite.

The predominant color in the Alder is a reddish brown and the predominate color of the granite is brown and black. Black, being neutral can be discounted in the selection. What I was referring to as the other elements often brings two colors together that by themselves might appear dissimilar. The backsplash is one of those elements as well as the wall color and the floor color that can harmonize colors so become pleasant together.

So yes, I think these can go together, but your other choices are going to be important.

Below are some images of different backsplashes that might do the trick for you.

eagledzines There you are. You are so very good with color. I have given my opinion, but it would be nice if you could weigh in on this subject. Vixon3606 is asking if the counter and the Alder go together.

Jayme Hobbs @eagledzines. Thank you...I am just lucky, I think. I think they do work together and agree a backsplash to further tie them together would be great. I think backsplash with both some warm tones and the black would work very well.

vixon6306 thank you so much...I was going to do a tumble stone cream colored backsplash.. do you think the cream would work in a brick style pub look or should I go with the square stones...I have white shutters I am stuck with in the kitchen so want to give it a traditional look in some way...any help you can give me would be so appreciated. thanks

Jayme Hobbs I wish I could see samples of both. I am not sure what type of square stones you mean...I think a cream colored backsplash could work.
