Need help deciding on vinyl siding color
I still have about 10 years on the roof, so I'd like it to match. My project manager wants to use Certainteed Mainstreet (p.39 of this pdf: http://www.certainteed.com/resources/cts001.pdf). Any suggestions for siding and shutters?

Thanks!!

Rockin' Fine Finish So you are siding your home with vinyl?

Brett Yes, vinyl siding. My project manager recommended 5.5" dutchlap.

Rockin' Fine Finish Why vinyl siding is there a specific reason for using this product?

Ironwood Builders rockin, you go on this one.

Lizabeth I am sort of curious as well as your ideabooks are showing craftsmen type exteriors with lap siding and/or shingles. What are your priorities?

Brett My project manager suggested vinyl siding due to similar siding being used in the neighborhood and for cost ($4500). Should I be looking at something different?

The exterior ideabook I have was created for the (long in the future) next house. But I do like those color schemes. If there was some way to integrate those ideas affordably, that would be awesome.

Rockin' Fine Finish Is the current siding in bad shape?

Brett It's asbestos shingles and some pieces have been falling off. The main reason I'm having it replaced is because someone ran their car into my house and the insurance company would pay to "match" the siding and replace the damaged part. I decided to instead use the money towards replacing/upgrading.

Rockin' Fine Finish I see. So I'm assuming the vinyl cost less than any other product and that's why you decided on it .

Brett Right. After the insurance paying for a quarter of the replacement, the vinyl is only costing me about $3000.

Rockin' Fine Finish I could only say try and get the best vinyl siding you can get I've heard of a product called revere

Brett I've read good things about CertainTeed, but I'll look into some alternatives.

So back to my color dilemma.... suggestions?

Rockin' Fine Finish What are your choices ?

Brett P.39 of the PDF in the original post has the colors. Sorry about that... The purpose of my post was to get color recommendations. I've thought about silver ash, flagstone, sterling gray.

Rockin' Fine Finish Colonial white with black shutters and white trim or corners. That colonial white is a light grey I think this a good look for your home .

Brett Cool, that was one of the color combinations I was thinking about.

Anyone else?

inkwitch I had my roof replaced with metal and chose a color which looked a "light gray" on the color card. I should have had a piece put on the roof, because it is such a light gray, people have asked me why I put a white or silver roof on! I recommend a darker color of gray than what you're considering, or you may end up with something that looks like "dirty white" or just washed out.

There is another darker gray on that page which, once you get it on the house, likely will not look that dark. See if you can get a sample big enough to tape to the side of the house in the sunlight. It may make a huge difference to your satisfactcion.

lnsail Inkwitch, you can tell people that you are going with the new trend for light colored roofing that reflects heat and helps with global warming!

inkwitch Hey, insail, I like that idea! Actually, I don't mind my roof at all. ANd as I live in the deep South, it has its advantages. But that's a good comeback! Thanks!
