Which end table would you choose for this space?
It was suggested to me (here) that I should avoid more wood and "blockiness" for this space. Avoiding wood in favor of a full glass piece won't work for our family now, but I thought some of these might work. I would keep the wooden table and add a round one on the other end. Thoughts?

the essentials inside Hi kittybart!

I see what looks like a projector -- is this a movie/media room? Can you take a couple more photos from different angles?

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design I'm not terribly fond of using two end tables because I think they take up space needlessly. I would put a table lamp on your existing end table and add a floor lamp at the other end.

I actually like all three of the round tables shown and would love to see one of them either between two chairs or beside one chair, though I would usually use a smaller one if it's going beside one chair.

decoenthusiaste These tables don't have the visual heft to be paired with the large dark end table. They're all nice but are too light in feeling to counter balance the other end of the sofa. You need something with a less wirey base.

jandority Since you asked...I like the first table the best., but then I like things clean and simple and it seems more substantial. Can you do more pictures? It's hard to see just what the couch look like.

jandority I was suggesting replacing existing table, not complementing it. My bad. Still like the first on best.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design By the first one do you mean the square wood one or the first glass one? Of the three glass ones, I prefer the second.

jandority The first glass one.

Darzy If you're adding a round one, I like the first one since it has a bit more "heft" like your square end table. But, as Caroylyn mentioned, I wouldn't put it on the other side of the sofa. By a chair, or between two chairs.

kittybart Here are some more views of the space.

Yes, Lyvonne, it is a projector. The space was configured for a projector prior to us purchasing the house, and I started another thread for layout of this space (Houzzers helped me). We don't watch the projector as much as the TV, so this layout will work for us as we can just move the large chair around when we watch to watch the screen.

The small drink table next to the small chair isn't staying - just a place holder for now.

Perhaps I should buy a more suitable accent table for that chair and add a floor lamp to the other end of the couch, as someone else suggested? Do I also need the floor lamp next to the chair?

decoenthusiaste Yes, a table for the chair, a lamp for the sofa and a coffee table instead of the hassocks.

Ekhaya Designs Table 1 is a great choice because of the size and I have seen it in person so I do know it has more weight because your upholstery is heavy in size and appearance. The other tables would appear too small in proportion to your upholstery. Your rug is beautiful. I would get a glass coffee table too so you can see the rug and the glass table would make the upholstery not look so hefty because it is see through. Table 1 has a rectangular coffee table that you can pair with it. Love that rug!

kittybart Thanks for the comments! Unfortunately, the ottoman must stay, and a glass coffee table is out - I have a young toddler so it must be family friendly and safe at this point.

I mean, I guess I could do a glass table, but I feel like a glass coffee table is more dangerous/likely to be broken than an end table.

Ekhaya Designs I have kids too so I totally understand. Keep the ottoman since you have already purchased it and your reason for choosing it is a sound one. I added some pictures of other kid friendly ottomans that could have been options because they are less bulky.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design Perhaps this one would work for you.

nFORMAL design I would take the floor lamp away from the chair if you are going to put one on the other end of the couch as someone else suggested. Then, maybe put a small table lamp on top of the one next to the chair if you like to read. I also agree that all of the circular tables are too thin in scale to place on the other end of your couch, with a possible exception being the first one. I can't tell what the two square panels are on the back wall, but you may want to consider putting up some artwork above the couch, maybe two smaller pieces to break up the wall if possible. Finally, just an observation, but you say you're worried about glass tables, yet all three circular ones you posted have glass.

kittybart Yes I am worried about a glass coffee table, but not an end table. I don't think my toddler would climb on an end table but she might a lower coffee table. Just a personal preference and knowing how my family functions tells me a glass table won't work.

Yes I am also working on art for behind the couch. This whole room is a work in process. Here is another thread on that topic. http://www.houzz.com/discussions/373136/Art-behind-couch---speakers-in-the-way

The small squares are speakers, unfortunately. :/

the essentials inside kittybart - I agree on the no-glass-coffee table rule. My nephew fell into my parent's glass coffee table when he was little - I wasn't there but am told it was not a pretty scene.

Love the rug! Thanks for the additional pics.

Darzy I agree the toddlers tend to raise up with the coffee table, not the higher end tables! I think a tripod floor lamp on the right of the sofa would look great. Fills the space, yet still spacious feeling. They range from $100 and up! Here's a sample, but a bit pricey. Then, I'd buy the round table above you like and put it on the side of your accent chair with a lamp. I think the current floor lamp isn't working for your space. Maybe you an use in a bedroom? I too love that rug! To give the ottomans a more "coffee table" look. How about adding a pretty tray on top? Yes, a large art piece above the sofa would be perfect.

kittybart Darzy - you were reading my mind with that lamp. I was looking for a similar style as well. It has to be sturdy though (toddler destruction). Yes, that floor lamp is from a bedroom. I was just using it as a place holder for now.

I did have a tray on the ottoman before my daughter was born. Again, toddler friendly and stylish don't always mesh that well. I keep the tray handy for guest's drinks and the like.

And art...yeah, I need it.

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design I love that lamp but it looks to me like a temptation for children to get under it and tip it over.
