Need help
Family room is rectangular. Fireplace on one long wall and doorway not centered on other long wall. Short walls have large window and other is pocket doors. I have a sofa loves eat and two chairs but need help arranging so that all can view tv and I don't want to put it on the mantle. Any ideas?

pcmom1 The first thing is to take all the small tables out, all stuff off mantle, paintings off walls, etc., and start to lay out your best furniture arrangement. Buy some "Furniture Sliders" from Loews or Home Depot first!

I think your room would really benefit from a little rearranging. Don't be afraid to take sofa, etc. away from the walls and work with angles. This will break up the long rectangle. I suggest you place your armoire where the tv is: with your tv placed INSIDE the armoire.

Then I would take the chair into the corner where the armoire used to be and make a reading corner. Perhaps the chest the tv is now sitting on could be used there with one of your lamps on it. Place the plant in the blue pot that is on the hearth on the chest also.

Pull the long sofa out and angle it towards tv/armoire for viewing. Bring in your love seat and place that at 45 degree angle with sofa to create an L. May have to switch the two seating pieces so that you have more openness. Just have to try it out! Put the sofa end table with lamp between the sofa and loveseat.

Add a coffee table to the sofa/ loveseat area.

I would take the two large paintings and put them on the long wall opposite the fireplace. Are they a set? I am talking about the one behind your chair and the one by the entry way.

I would take the paintings that are on the mantle and arrange them over the sofa table by the entry way. Your mantle seems very high so I would keep only a couple of very simple things up there.

pcmom1 Since it is tall, I would just leave the two pottery pieces up there, as they are now but pulled 6 inches more to the center. Then add a tall thin piece to the hearth. This could be taller fireplace tools, a tall pottery piece or a sculpture of some kind. Might have to shop the house or buy a few things to try. Or maybe a nice lush plant in a ceramic container sitting on the floor next to the fireplace.
