decoenthusiaste First, remove all of your art. If should hang below door frames with centers of free hanging items at 60" above the floor. Those above a sofa or other furniture should be 5-8" above the furniture. Forget about trying to fill up the walls to the high ceiling - you live in the area below the tops of the doors, so decorate there. I think your sofas are too large because the big one sticks out in the doorway. Try floating it in the center facing the French doors with its back to the counter - perpendicular to the slim wall between the archway and the TV recess. Then put the small one and maybe the two end tables (if they'll both fit) on the wall where the big sofa was. I can't tell anything about your area rug if there is one. A better lit pic would help.

lapochita08 Awesome! Will the big sofa create a problem blocking an entry way? Please see picture. I dont have an area rug, any suggestions on color and size?

decoenthusiaste Align the end of the sofa with the hallway and it won't be a problem. Get an area rug large enough to fill all the space between the two sofas once they are moved. Try a simple sisal, maybe with a brown border, or a chevron in cream and brown. Here are some cute pillows and rug ideas. Your Tiffany box wall color will look great with brown accents.

lapochita08 Would bar stools thow off the setting?

Mega Builders The walls paint color does not match the stile of the furniture and the flooring. A light creme or some other earth tone would look better. The sofa and love seat could use some decorative pillows, dark reds will look nice. Try to place the sofa diagonally. The pictures are small and random, you need to get larger ones, and group the small ones.

decoenthusiaste You could do two bar stools at the curved part of the bar. Keep them small scale so they don't crowd the sofa.

Keitha Agree with @Mega that the blue is a little unexpected for this space. It would more often be thought of as a bedroom color.... That's what I like about it.. Unexpected! I think the more intense blue/gold combination of the attached pic. Is beautiful too. Possibily think of including some intense color?

lapochita08 Are curtains recommened for the french doors? If so, how high? Wall is 8ft tall.

lapochita08 I have not removed the frames, I am focused on the furniture first. I have moved them around. Any insights?

lapochita08 I had to move the love seat foward to fit the 2 coffee table next to it. There is also limited space between the bar and Sofa.

lapochita08 Here are a few more pictures.

lapochita08 There is space behind the love seat, and large space for a rug. Now if I move the love seat back against the wall only, one coffee table fits, adjacent.

aerinrae I think you should definitely have stools at your bar. Can you mount your tv on the wall? That would look better a little higher and get some lighting behind the tv. Get a big rug, probably bigger than you think and then work the furniture half onto the rug. You could use some larger pieces of art. The small could be grouped together. After you get that rug, find some throws and pillows!

lapochita08 Do you suggest keeping the love seat foward or against the wall? Thanks!

lapochita08 Do you have any suggestions as to how I can get the lighting? I can defenitly mount it. Should I go for dark or silver stools?

aerinrae They make LED strips you can put behind your TV. Since your niche is so deep, it will illuminate the interior without creating a shadow over your TV. My husband has some on a TV he has in the basement, I believe from IKEA, his are blue- I wouldn't recommend blue in your living space. I'm not sure if IKEA has other colors. A home improvement store may sell them. They actually make watching tv in the evening much better, also. Do the doors open into the room or away? How many stools would you need? I really think the couch looks awkward against the bar. You have quite a dilemma with all of those doorways, and your furniture is a tad too large for the space. I can't see moving them away from the wall without one thing intruding on another. Also if you do have everything central, you're not going to be able to walk between things, you will be making circles to get in and out of the seating area. Am I right? You want at least 3 feet of walkway if you move between a wall and furniture often. I think if you are set on keeping the couch and loveseat, I would start with adding a rug and finding a square coffee table. As far as the stools go, I'll add some photos of some that I think are great. Looking at that bird print you have on the wall, (I love that wall color, btw) maybe you can draw from that to find a bold printed rug. I think a deep blue would look nice, and maybe throw around some orange little accents around the room. I attached the art print for a color palette that I think would fit you, depending on your feelings on orange- I know people either love it or hate it.

lapochita08 Thank you so Much^ I love orange! I am aiming for 2 bar stools.

lapochita08 I am starting to realize how huge they really are!! I have even tried the diagonally way as MegaBuilders suggested. I like how the sofa looks, but the love seat seems out of place any where I put it!

lapochita08 @aerinrae The doors open into the bedroom.

lapochita08 Found this on Rooms to Go website they look smaller and love the chevron rug!

lapochita08 I have finally solved my sofa dilema! Now is an accent chair recommended? Also, how high should I place the curtains above the french doors? I still need to remove the art work. And finally, how big should the rug be and do I need a new lamp?

lapochita08 I wil be removing the coffee table that is in the corner and replace with a corner shelf with graduated shelves.

aerinrae Hey! I'm glad you got it worked out! As far as the rug goes, have the rug just under the front feet of your couch and loveseat. I think that an accent chair would possibly look nice at the front, left corner of the rug facing the couches. I would suggest a rug large enough to fill a good deal of your living room and your seating arrangements that doesn't make for awkward conversation. A chair with an ottoman would be good. Maybe a small accent table by it. I have my curtains 6 inches out and a foot above.

Kathleen Amatangelo All the little assorted pictures must have meaning to you. Consider making a wall grouping gallery with them. http://www.hgtv.com/decorating-basics/how-to-create-an-art-gallery-wall/pictures/index.html

decoenthusiaste Are you feeling muscled up now? You found the solution! Sometimes you just have to keep shoving it around until it feels right. aerinrae is right about the rug - big enough for the sofas to have all their front feet on it and for 8-10 or 12' to stick out from under the sides of the sofas. What have you decided about an accent color with the blue walls? I think you can pick up sea glass colors with your blue, or do the original brown that we discussed. The accent chair idea is a good one.
