ATTENTION DESIGNERS - Need help with 13'x25' Living Room
My husband and I purchased our home 1 year ago. I am stumped on how to furnish and decorate this long narrow room with 2 doorways, a fireplace and a 25' long blank wall. I would love a cottage/beachy casual design, but am unsure how to achieve this in a formal living room with a piano. Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

decoenthusiaste Get out the paintbrush and paint the coffee and end table for sure. Pull the piano to the longer wall on the left of the FP. I always prefer the keyboard to be seen from the room since the body of a baby grand can look much like another type of box that we don't want to see in the living room. You may want more casual lamps, a big sisal or colorful casual area rug (check out indoor/outdoor ones at homedecorators.com,) beach art, maybe slipcovers for some second hand chairs. Driftwood too.

Interiors International, Inc. I love all the above ideas. You really have good choices. I feel that if I add another it will just be redundant or confuse you.

Erin I agree that the photos shown are great. You'll just need to collect some more furniture for the right scale of the room. I love the 'Classic and Relaxed Beach Condo' photo. The only thing I would add is that I also have a long skinny room and I decided to put a gatefold table and chairs under the front window. It's not for everyone to have a table and chairs in your living room but I also like that I can pull that table out for more seating at a party, etc. I'm still working on my room as well but I attached a photo of the table I'm referring to.

Judy M I ike the above ideas, I would add that your sofa looks very small, like a love seat size, so something longer on that wall. Use heat resistant spray paint and paint the brass FP screen black.

Add woven wood blinds to the windows with natural color drapery panels on sides of window, either the clip on or grommet style. Hang them from just under the crown molding. Pottery Barn has the drapes. Definitely, a large sisal rug.

The room is not balanced. You have too much at one end of the room. If you move the piano to the other end, then you can add 2 chairs with a table in between them as shown in one of the photos above. Also look at the scale of the lamps in that same photo, as compared to yours.

Pottery Barn has some mercury glass lamps that i think would add that light beachy look you're after.

muddyinsignia I love the above comments. I also think in a long or big main room like this, to create intimacy or your "cottage" feel, you need to create separate seating areas: like the one area you have surrounding the fireplace and another near the window--section them off.

Rhonda Linderman I agree with moving the piano to the left of the fireplace 45 degree angel with room to move. I made a folder of decore ideas. I would buy a storage bench to place under the window.

Rhonda Linderman Pull couch out from wall angel it more in the center of the room. Go to thrift stores and look around you could find some good fines. TJ Max has some really great stuff right now.

Rhonda Linderman You can go to Lowes and buy a cubical storage unit paint it white, use some antique white and some sandpaper to sand the corners and the front side to add a distressed look.

3 Day Blinds Seobrie,
This is a great room, a lot to work with! I agree with Judy, Woven Wood Shades would look great in this room and give it that beach feel but still creating that polished look.

Check these out- http://www.3dayblinds.com/window-treatments/shades/woven-wood

The color palet is a great guide to show you what colors complement the tan walls. Pillows and other furniture in these colors would look great.

Finally, a blue woven rug gives the room a much warmer feel and further creates that beachy feel you are looking to achieve.

Happy Decorating! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or need help setting up a free in home design appointment for your blinds!

mmac846 Love the idea of a table and chairs under the window. How about a painted table with a checkerboard painted on top and use this area for games?

craftyone11 I would consider some large wall quotes that you can get online, their vinyl and totally safe for your walls, they add a cool custom feel with out adding heavy bulky ness. I just ordered some from www.bgdecals.com and they are awesome!
