Help with rug color that works best
I am trying to choose which rug color works best to go with the couch fabric and also blend well w/ the rug I have chosen for dining room. The patterned rug is for undering dining table and the others are what I'm trying to choose from ........ what do you think?

Julie Dyer or any other suggestions? :)
Jayme Hobbs I think 2 or 4 tie in better and would be better on the dark floor
4 months ago ·
Julie Dyer I was leaning with #2 and #4 as well Jayme but wanted to see what others thought! I know they are all so close and I didn't want to mess up. Thank you so much for your response :)

Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design I like #1, but reading color off a computer screen practically equates to being born color blind.
Jayme Hobbs I agree computer screens are deceptive in many cases...so..from what I can see anyway, one and four look the best to me...Sounds like in person, Julie, you were leaning the same direction?

Julie Dyer I know the feeling that is what is making me struggle but the swatches are $30 each @ Restoration Hardware and I didn't want to order all of those :) I really did struggle with thinking #1 at first myself and that is the one my husband chose too. I thought again maybe it didn't have enough gray undertone and didn't know if it would throw the whole look off.

Jayme Hobbs Maybe pick a friend with good taste and see if they agree with your choice..I often get nervous making online suggestions due to distortion/color change from pics, screens, etc..

Julie Dyer To make sense of that comment my walls are SW Silverpointe
4 months ago · ·
Julie Dyer Good idea because not sure I want to go with DH's opinion LOL I can't see the rugs in person so thats what is making it difficult. I don't think they carry those rugs in the stores.
Julie Dyer 1st color is accent wall in SW Homberg and 2nd colore is SW Silverpointe through dining room, living room and hallway, kitchen

Jayme Hobbs That first rug looks too warm..the other two I mentioned look more in the scheme! If u order and it's wrong, can u send it back?
Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design Don't they give you your $30 back when you order and return the sample?
Julie Dyer @ Jayme, I'm sure I could send back. It isn't custom or anything would just be the return shipping charge. That is where I get confused, warm and cool tones. I would hate one item in the whole scheme of things to throw off the enitre look! @ Carolyn, quite possibly they do, I'll have to check!

Angela Pascoe Thanks

Jayme Hobbs @Angela Pascoe...Hi..nice to see u again!!
debb1964 So my first pick was #1 but after you posted the colors of the walls, I"m shifting to #4. My original impression of #4 is a very slight greenish tinge and I think that works well with SW Homberg. Loved #1 and will look at it for my new project. Loving your fabrics and rug!!

Angela Pascoe Hi Jayme how are you, de stress from the last she baggle if that is a word.
Jayme Hobbs @Angela...no worries...your input is valuable..
Jayme Hobbs @Angela...I am great..hope u r too! Let's decorate!!!
Julie Dyer @debb1964 - The one reason I did consider #4 was it's a bit darker than the linen fabric on the couch. I want to be sure that the couch just doesn't blend in with the color of the rug and appear to be boring w/o contrast. The reason I was considering #1 is that I was thinking perhaps of going with Burlap curtains to keep a casual feel to the room since we did linen on the couch. Thank you for the compliment!! Homberg is actually a bluish tint, it really gives the Silverpointe a bluish tint as well in the rest of the room, especially during the evening.

Aja Mazin #1 would go beautifully!

Your dining room rug is fantastic!

Aja Mazin Julie Dyer,

I love the fabric with the cranes.

May I ask its pattern name and maker?
Aja Mazin Just wanted to see them together!
rug #1
hopefulgarden I vote for rug #3. Is it more of a charcoal? I'd like to see some contrast with the linen color on the sofa. If you choose a beige rug with a beige couch, there's no visual tension. Just my opinion from a few pics on a computer screen, though. Good luck. I know that making these decorating decisions can be stressful.

intoit Think you need to bring in some warm tones so I vote for the 1st one.
hopefulgarden Another thought. Have you considered another print?
bevballew I thought nos. 1 and 4. The charcoal is pretty but maybe too dark. Which fabric did you choose of the linens?
Julie Dyer @bevballew, the fabric for the linen, it's the one on the bottom of the photo. The top three fabrics are the pillows for the couch. The solid print.
Julie Dyer @hopefulgarden, I love the charcoal but afraid it may be too dark for the hand scraped hickory floors. I'm afraid to do another pattern in fear it may make it too busy.
Julie Dyer @Aja Mazin, Thank You!! I ordered the couch custom from a local furniture shop. I selected the fabric for a pillow for a petite black leather chair to put next to the fireplace along with the other two fabrics for the couch. I forget the name of the pattern name and maker but I will get that for you and let you know. I love the #1 next to the dining room rug and because of the bule heron fabric, it seems to match perfect. What is throwing me off is the fabric for the sofa. I've attached the photo of the leather chair I bought to place the blue heron pillow on as well. Please let me know if you think this works with #1 rug. Thank you so much!

bevballew As I look at all the fabrics and with the sofa being covered in the solid fabric, no. 3 the charcoal goes the best as it will be near the sofa. . The others don't seem to go with the sofa or pillow fabrics, just the dining room rug. Am I missing something? I don't see any other rug looking good with the sofa fabric and pillows.

hopefulgarden The question is, do you want the couch and rug to contrast, or the floor and rug to contrast. Your floors are amazingly beautiful. Another option, go super light, a cream (maybe modern shag from crate and barrel or room and board) which would highlight both the floor and the couch.
judyg # 3 AS it looks like it is the same color as the darkest in the dining rug.
Julie Dyer I was looking @ a chunky wool rug from Pottery Barn but thought maybe too light..... photo attached. I want there to be depth between the couch and the rug for sure. I almost elimated the rug attached because I was afraid it was too light......... opinion? I love the charcoal rug, you don't think it's too dark w/ the floors?
bevballew I see no problem with the charcoal rug. The dining room has a charcoal gray in it and does it look good against the dark floor? I love the dining room rug. Just gorgeous. Where did you get it? I love your selections!
Julie Dyer @bevballew, Thank You! It does match the gray in the dining room rug perfectly. I do love it! I'm not sure, I really wanted to go with either light or gray once I selected the couch in linen w/ the accent pillows and the black leather chair but then I saw the other colors and possibly am overthinking? I just want to be sure it's perfect! The dining room rug came from sundancecatalog.com :)
bevballew Do you think the other rugs will go with the sofa fabric? The beige looking rugs go well with the dining rug but I am wondering if they clash with the sofa fabric. I don't see the pillow fabrics picking up any of the rug colors. That is my concern! I am not a designer but have a decent eye with decorating.
Julie Dyer I thought for sure #1 went w/ the sofa until I saw #2 then thought it had more of a grayish undertone. #1 would be great with burlap curtains which I'm considering. I'm sure you have figured out by now I tend to go with more subdued tones and am really going out of my comfort zone when I select printed fabrics. I like the idea of #3 being a totally different dept from the linen on the couch. I'm trying to picture the entire look together couch, assent pillows, chair, flooring and curtains. I'm not sure at this point how to decide? The pillow fabric on the right, w/ the accent color inside the cream I think would look well with #1 rug. Sooo confusing :)

Julie Dyer This may help, curtain choices :)

hopefulgarden I think you can't go wrong with either the charcoal RH rug or the PB chunky wool (I like it!). Just depends on where you want your eye to go, i.e, point of contrast. Another idea, which I have done, you can go to your local flooring/carpet dealer and have broadloom carpet which offers way more styles and colors, custom sized (with banding) for your room - at half the cost of a ready made area rug. This is especially so, in your case, since you basically want a textured solid. I have the most beautiful nylon faux sisal stair runner, you would never know the difference. I'm very picky and usually like the real thing, but the carpet guy convinced me. I have to say, I am very pleased.
bevballew I look forward to what the designers have to say! You have good taste! Love your fabrics!
Julie Dyer @hopefulgarden, your stair runner sounds beautiful!! I'm from a very small town in southeastern Ohio and I'm afraid there isn't much of a selection here as far as local carpet dealers. I could check for sure though, that is something I have not thought about! Thank you so much for your input, quite helpful to hear all the suggestions. I can tend to be "boring" when it comes to clothes, no patterns LOL I did not want to make the same mistake with our new home :) I really have no decorating style, very eclectic. Maybe I am trying to be too careful with rug selection!

Julie Dyer @bevballew, thank you so much!!!

Julie Dyer A few other items that are going into the same living room area w/ the rug: 1) stone for fireplace 2) light above living area 3) coffee table that will be placed on rug (would it blend in too much w/ the charcoal rug?) 4) Art I wanted to use as well......... Not sure if this would help narrow down the selection.

Aja Mazin Burlap comes in a variety of colours

Julie Dyer Color photo above of curtains which I believe would match #1 best. I feel like I am just all over the place.
hopefulgarden I think it's fine if things blend. You seem to like neutrals and a monochromatic color palette. May I suggest, you need some COLOR girl! I went to Etsy, searched designer pillows. Here's a few ideas.
Julie Dyer Beautiful pillows! I have 6 coming with my couch... you have figured me out! Love neutrals and monochromatic! Thank you for those photos! Love that last one would match other pillows I believe. I figured I would do some color in accessories in case I get tired of color which I tend to do!
Affordably Chic Designs I would choose #4. Love the fabrics you have chosen!
Julie Dyer Thank you!! Pretty soon am going to close my eyes and just pick one! Lol. I am going to order samples today. It's just too hard without seeing actual color.
Julie Dyer I believe this is the one I have chosen to go with it's a Chunky Braided Wool Rug in Grey. Looks to match well with everything and gives depth between couch, rug and floor!
Angela Pascoe @hopefulgarden, where is the second one from.
hopefulgarden Angela, are you wondering about the pillows? I just searched "designer pillows" at etsy. You should come across it with the first few pages of results.

Julie Dyer @ Aja Mazen, the furniture place I purchased my sofa that gave the selection of fabrics, the maker is Southern Furniture, the material w/ the blue heron on it is Krue Sand . .
