Remodeler does not recommend putting one material over another.
We are installing black granite sink counter tops. Is there any way to update the tub. We will be changing the fixtures to brushed nickel.

Norm Walters Construction Inc. The splash area could be removed and the sides and top of the tub could be clad with 2cm granite or quartz. On the top of the tub surfacing would overhang just a bit into the tub creating an undermount look. Faucets are available for thick deck mounting.

JDM Countertops, Inc. I would not recommend doing slab over this. I agree with your remodeler. It's a lot of liability, and you would not want to spend the money on this, and have issues with it down the road. What if you tub base is not structurally sound enough to support the slab (which is much heavier)? It can be done, but not sure you would be happy with it.

Norm Walters Construction Inc. We are not talkjng about that much weight, how wide is it, also the piece on the face would be supporting the top piece, quartz may be better as it is stronger, Corian would work too as it it lighter. If it was attached with silicone the coefficient wouldn't be a problem as it would allow for movement, which is one of the reasons dissimilar materials shouldn't be attached to each other.

Norm Walters Construction Inc. Not saying it should be done, but I believe it can be.

Riddle Construction and Design I would not suggest spending the money to overlay the existing tub. Do the project in phases and replace the tub as your budget permits.

Norm Walters Construction Inc. I'm compelled to agree, probably not cost effective. You could remove the tub, frame a tub deck, install a new tub with a tiled surround for close to the same money. Should I delete all my posts to protect the guilty? 8-)

scapp Thank you for the comments. My husband loves the length of the tub so it's a keeper and he HATES construction. The splash area is going to be redone and the new faucets will change the look so that will be that and I just won't look at it!

Joan Walker Is that a Delta faucet on the tub? I have the same faucet and want to replace, but do not know the brand.

CMR Interiors & Design Consultations Inc. You don't put stone over a plastic tub. You need to get a new tub that can be undermounted and then you build the frame for that tub correctly so the tub would be supported on the bottom and not shift.

scapp Joan Walker, I can't see a name on the tub faucets but all the other faucets were Price-Pfister so I am assuming these are too. I am replacing these with PP in brushed nickel.

Joan Walker Are you able to access the rough in? On my tub, I would have to cut through a wall or the panel if I need to replace the valve rough in. Will you let me know how the faucet replacement goes?

kristheot Get some nice black towels to set on top of the tub. Cheaper and easier!

scapp As soon as the plumbing gets done I will let you know Joan. I will post pictures of the tub area when the job is complete which should be the end of this week.
