Need help in choosing tile for our master bath
We are going to redo the tiles in our master bath because of bad workmanship. The builder is doing it and we can choose any tile. So we need big help!!! Have to do it by tomorrow. The counter is absolute black. I'm posting picture for help. The door at the far end is to our closet. The shower area and all will have to change. Thank you so much for any help!! Has a chandelier and I forgot to light it before taking a picture.

ASVInteriors Given the glamour of your bathroom, can you go all blackor all white? The full colour will give it drama,
Any colour can be brought in via towels and other accessories.

Stoneshop I'm assuming you're only talking about floor tiles in this space?

Since your bathroom is sophisticated and elegant, I would stick with marble floor tiles--Carrara preferrably. I would do either a 12" x 24" or a larger 18" x 18" square. If you wanted to do something a little bit more traditional, you could do a basketweave Carrara tile. I would not add in those mosaic decorative details--just do all marble.

sdidea Thank you ASVInteriors and Stoneshop! We appreciate your help.
I like the marble and white in it ( would lay it as Stoneshop as suggested) but my husband is inclined towards black granite. We have hard water and have not installed the water softener yet. So in a dilemma! What would be the best? Yes we would do the floor as in the picture but would do the shower area as well.

Stoneshop For the look that you are going for, marble is definately more appropriate. Absolute Black granite can create more of a commercial or industrial feel. Very hard water can sometimes damage marble, but, if you are planning on installing a water softener, you will be fine. We install marble floors regularly, and we do not have problems with it. Just be sure that your tile installer KNOWS how to install stone tile. If he does it correctly, your marble will be sealed three times, so you should be good until the water softener is installed. Absolute Black granite, while beautiful, has some upkeep with it. It shows all of the dust, fingerprints, etc rather easily--especially when polished.

JDM Countertops, Inc. I like the idea of using a different size, and offsetting the pattern to help the space feel larger. The large rectangles in marble are a nice change of pace. Still the marble look, but adding some interest in the shape and size.

sdidea Does laying the tiles in a diamond pattern help to look larger or does different sizes of the rectangle make it look larger?

ASVInteriors The reason people use diagonal tiles is ostensibly to make the room look larger. With your classic design I think it could work, but I prefer for a grid approach.

sdidea The tile we have now is Calacatta Gold, is good to use this tile?

JDM Countertops, Inc. If you are happy with that and love the way it looks then I say do it again. Obviously, you were drawn to it the first time for a reason. However, if you had any doubt, now would be the time to change it. I would look into finding out if it is available in any larger or rectangular sizes in your area. It would be nice to change up the pattern.

sdidea I agree JDM with your comments! The store gave us another sample of black. We can finalize by Monday. I'm uploading the pic. Please let me know how this would work. My husband is like wow black...,,

dclostboy I like the dramatic look you'll get with the black...will just have to paint the walls a different color.

sdidea I would really need honest thoughts about doing the black and white granite. Thanks for all the help!!!!

Lori The black and white granite is very taste specific, you won't be able to change things up much, and I think you would tire of it after several years. It would also look dated faster. If this is your forever house and you love it - go for it, but if you plan on selling in the next 10 years you need something neutral.

Jeffrey Brooks Interior Design Your Bathroom is beautiful and I think a Black and White floor is classic. The advice you've gotten about keeping the floor on a diagonal is also really classic. JDM said it well when she mentioned that you should do what you love. Like someone said here already, the bonus with this scheme is that you can use just about any color you like to accesorize with. Another option besides color is you do not have to stick to solids. For instance, if you would like to bring in Gold, or Ruby, you can start with a beautiful print on a few towels or artwork and go from there................................!

suzanne_m It is a beautiful floor. The only thing is when I looked at the murale for the first time I was freezing. Looking at the murale while being in the bath may not feel that cold since you will be already in warm water but getting out of the shower and seeing the murale, you may have the feeling of the cold this murale brings.

Nancy Walton Neat! I would make sure the sun is centered in the space, and direct all your spots to shine on the one spot, that way it will look like the sun is always shining! I wouldn't have gone with the winter scene, personally, because I hate winter! Beachy for me! LOL

Nancy Walton Oh, I just thought of a neat idea! If you had changeable LEDs for spotlight, you could have a sun setting!

Nancy Johnston I am wondering about Venetian plaster for your walls, very classic and elegant. I think you might tire of the mural. Why not hang a beautiful framed mirror, or painting, that you can change seasonally, or when you tire of it?
