Need Help on choosing patterns to match Damask Gray/Ivory chair.
Hello,

I have bought a grey/ivory damask chair and an ivory sectional. I really like color and different mix of patterns but now I do not know what is the best patterns of rugs or curtains or even throw pillows for the couch to get. I have two dark teal/turquoise side tables. Do I go with more of a neutral rug and colorful other pieces or vise versa or a big mix? Please help!!!!

karen paul interiors The sofa you have shown is what you are thinking about purchasing? Also, could you post a photo of your tables? Thanx

Emily Here is the color of the side table (This is one of them) And yes the sectional and the chair were paired together so I'm trying to figure out what other colors I should put with it..Gold tones, burnt orange, coral?

L.A. Lady Love the chair! The couch is a blank canvas so it will adapt well to whatever you choose. The rug with the chair will be trickier but look for rugs you like on their own and then see if they work with it or not. I think you'll find rugs, no matter the pattern, that have the same gray and white color on them will work and solid colors will work but boldly-color prints will clash a bit. After you find a rug, drapes and pillows will be easier to find in the colors you're looking for.

As for specific colors, try getting paint swatches that match the sofa, the chair colors and the color of your side tables. That will be the base of your palette. Then add some bold colors and see what you like. Hopefully this will put you on the right track when looking for the rug ad other accessories.

I think a fuchsia would look great with gray, white and teal (they were the colors for my wedding, in fact).

anthip I love coral with teal and grey. Gorgeous combo.

You could also combine it with some black and ivory zebra if you fancy something quirky.

Get some awesome cushions on that couch.

Lovely space.

daniinla Would love to see a wide stripe in the two tones of the chair for either pillows or textile (rug maybe?) in the room.

karen paul interiors I'm curious about your choice of chair and sofa vs the turquoise/teal tables. No one has asked the question so I thought I would.

Emily I originally had redone a side table my great grandfather had made and re-painted it and made it looked antique (that picture is not shown). So when I was looking for furniture I tend to like grey colors with teal and this chair seemed very comfortable. Since it was paired with the couch, I figured I could find some things to go with them since it was such a neutral color, but design is not my expertise so find the rug has been difficult. I also like this rug (I'm a colorful person) so I thought this may work. What is your thoughts?

Emily I do love that style of painting and the rug you presented as well. I will need to look for some affordable rugs/paintings that look like that!

karen paul interiors Emily, I don't think the rug you offered will add to the room. You need to set a primary color. In the case of the gray/green rug, that has been established. Then to pick up just a little of your turquoise/teal from the tables will help immensely to establish a second color in the room. Whenever you introduce a color to the room, you will need to reference it again. That's why the overall colors are important in the painting. Your gray will be your primary color along with the ivory...both neutrals. Your secondary color will be the turquoise/teal. Then with pillows you can add a very little reference to the other colors in the painting.

Emily I see what you are saying. In the case that I used a rug and painting like those, would I go with a solid color or a certain type of patterned curtains for the room?

Emily Would these grey rugs work or is there some when picking the rug in those color tones I need to focus on/stay away from? They are in my price range.

karen paul interiors You will need to take a sample of your chair with you when you shop for a rug. The gray of the rug does not have to be the same value, but it will need to be from the same family of gray. My monitor tells me that your chair upholstery has an underlying green tone to the gray. I like the scale of the last rug (on the right). As for your draperies, since budget is always an issue, I would get the rug in place first and then go from there for your window options.

Emily Thanks for all of your advice, Karen!

vjs12 The rug patterns above are close in size to the chair pattern. I would get a rug with a smaller pattern in gray and teal colors.

rawketgrl Sweet teal color, nice couch and chair choices. those tables are really going to pop! As usual I would go a different direction than most. I would do a teal rug and teal/gray/brown/tan pillows, with silvery gray velvet or faux velvet curtains. Have fun, any direction you go will be good with the great start you already have. :D

It's a Beautiful World! I really like the color of your tables, we don't get to see it very often. Looks like we have a piece with a similar color/shade, at least on my monitor. Emily If I am now getting this grey couch instead, the cream was sold out, that what color rug would you suggest? Would I still go with a lighter colony or ad a color and similar pattern?
