Front porch or not?
I'm debating whether or not adding a front porch to this folk Victorian would look good. Does anyone know of any free software programs that are available to make changes to the exterior of your home (kind of like photoshop) so I can see if this would look good? I'd love to remove the side enclosed porch and add a wraparound to the house. Any thoughts? Thanks

Mary Poulos Interior and Exterior Design Yes Definitely. It will formalize your entrance, be more welcoming, and Add Value to your curb appeal

jar_hdz Initially I thought maybe just accentuate the doorway, but considering the amount of unused space to the right of the door you could build a wraparound porch.

decoenthusiaste I"d remove the shutters so the original look could be achieved. Taking the side porch off is a good idea, but I don't think you can squeeze a roof in between the top of the door and the upper windows. You'd have to eliminate the transom to have the space for it. Your house, your option, though.

Tim Yeah, that's my only issue. I don't have a ton of room for a roof underneath those old windows (they're very long). Here's a quick photoshop of what I'd want it to look like...

Mega Builders A porch will add charm and definition to the exterior. it does not have to be deep, so the roof issue could be minimized.

decoenthusiaste More of a flat roof might work. Can you photoshop this one in?

libradesigneye Yes, and instead of opening the enclosed porch completely - take the porch around it and transition some of its windows to french doors out onto the side porch. Hard to add value when you subtract square footage, but easy to add value with porch when you allow old conversion to integrate. You can always take off the old roof of that area, and let the structure be open to the new roof of the whole thing.

Tim @decoenthusiaste - I agree that the windows shouldn't have shutters. I'm looking at bringing them back closer to the original style, and I might be able to get away with a flat roof. I really love these metal roofs lately, but I don't want to lose that transom either...

@libradesigneye - That's a great idea to keep a portion of the porch enclosed, it would make the space much more usable. Our weather doesn't allow us to be outside all 12 months

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I appreciate it.
