Decorating tv area?
I have a tv area off the kitchen, shot is from kitchen side. Couch faces tv, right of tv is a big sliding glass door to go to the backyard, behind the couch is the dining area. The walls are yellow all around. I like the wall color, my couch and my tv stand. We just moved house so this is a mismatch of carpet, hanging and table.
I need a new table but am at a loss what to get, needs to be small as its a tiny space. Glass? round? square? black? what carpet should I get to match the hanging? I think I like warm colors but don't want glaringly bright either. Carpet needs to be soft since we hang out on the floor a lot, it is the relaxing area. What color pillows? I really like my hanging (got it while traveling abroad) but am finding it hard to incorporate it. Alternatively I can move the hanging and get decor to match the carpet?
The general theme of our home is clean line ikea stuff with vintage looking stuff and pops of color. I like to stick to warm colors (so i like the yellow) because we live in an area that is cold and dreary a lot of the time.
Please help; thanks in advance! :)

Mary Poulos Interior and Exterior Design Hi! first of all I would look in Pottery Barn for the type of pillows they use (textural and they have great colors for your particular room) and buy something similiar. I do not know if you are near a Costco, but they have a solid nubby rug that comes in white and off white. It is a great buy, is soft, reasonbly priced and would be perfect. I would change out your coffee table.

Manon Floreat I think this rug by David Easton for Safavieh would work beautifully in your space. The soft golden color would work with your wall color and the geometric pattern references your wall hanging. It's quiet enough to allow your wall piece to take center stage, but has interest of its own.

For a coffee table, consider the peek-a-boo lucite table from CB2. It's transparency won't take up any visual space and will allow you to appreciate your rug. I like the below Chinese garden stool as a side table for the sofa. You might consider a sofa table if space allows.

I love your wall hanging and where you've placed it.

Barnhart Gallery I'd try moving your TV to the wall where the wall hanging is now and move the couch to face it, with a slim console table at the back. I think your textile piece might be better suited hung the long way where you currently have the TV. I'd then look for a rug in similar tones.

kathleen MK Love the wall hanging. If you have kids or animals get a darker color rug. I like Manon's choice.
We use a little storage ottoman (faux croc from Target clearance ) for a coffee table and footstool in our TV area. It's a small area so I angle the square ottoman with a corner toward the middle of the love seat and we can move around better. A circle would be better.

Darzy Manon...your ideas always impress me. veryanna...picture these items Manon suggested in your space. Very designer looking and will work beautifully in your home.
I like the rug but it's not just right here so I hope you can use elsewhere. I love the wall hanging and wall color and sofa. A new coffee table and area rug will take it up a notch.

Vivian Rase From the looks of your picture I'm wondering if you would be interested in going with a bolder, more dramatic look. Here's a cool rug that I immediately thought of when I saw that picture. A great mix of pillows, a scrumptious throw and a coffee table with colorful books and cool objects would complete the look

olldbobbi What if you were to skip the coffee table altogether, and added a martini table to either side of the sofa? And then a super plush area rug for lounging. [houzz=Martini Side Table]

veryanya Thanks all!! This is helpful, I'm glad you all like the hanging. The current rug can actually go upstairs so I can get a new one for this space. I like the idea of tone on tone that Manon suggested but worry good may clash with yellow?
I also thought about the cb2 table that is clear. Will also look into martini tables.
What color pillows would go? Pick rug first? Pillows patterned or plain?
Thanks for the suggestion to look at PB at pillows.

veryanya Barnhart- thanks for the suggestion. Can't move the couch though because it would be right up against the kitchen island/seating area

veryanya Thanks Vivian, I do love that rug you posted!! I really need to get the pillows and rug right and then I think ill have a really cozy space. This rug might be too busy though :)

Barnhart Gallery Oh, too bad. It looked light it might fit there.

veryanya Meant to post a few more pics of the space last night- here is the area from the couch side and the dining area behind the couch. I have a bright turquoise console and gold mirror that I like in the space.

veryanya Here's the whole space. im pretty sure something is off with my curtains on the sliding door. Maybe too high or the fact that there are tabs... I tried to hang as high as possible as per the tips I've seen on houzz!! :)

veryanya Kathleen- circular ottoman could work! I like all the cute small furniture at target, I should take a look. We have pets too only they are beige and shed a lot. Hence I like to get beige and white couches and rugs so I'm not constantly picking fur off :) the good rug idea works for that reason!

Vivian Rase Did you paint the turquoise console table yourself? If so what color did you use?

(Also, be cautious about Pottery Barn. Avoid ordering textiles made in India, Pakistan, Turkey, China to name a few....actually textile imports from any store and especially if you have small children who crawl and play on the floor. Rugs, baskets, tapestries, clothing etc have been found to be contaminated. Many items are produced in unsanitary conditions and have been found to arrive contaminated with insects or insecticides that have been banned in the US since the 1970's. Imports are not subjected to the same standards as here in the USA. Old Navy and their sister stores have also been reported to have this problem. A friend experienced a problem and her online research found multiple websites dedicated to the subject. We all need to keep one another informed.)

veryanya Vivian- yikes, thanks for sharing! Had not heard of this.
I got the console already painted that bright turquoise from a store called Nadeau. Incidentally...they import furniture from India!

Vivian Rase Wood furniture shouldn't be an issue though I suppose it could. Tends to be found in natural fibers, wool, jute, cotton etc

simplify52 If you switched the tv area with the dining room would that give you more room for your sofa, tv and more room to relax on the floor. I understand the floor thing too. In our house the floor is a go to spot as well!!!

Manon Floreat Kathy Bailey, that is a brilliant idea! It would probably be more convenient for serving meals as well.

veryanya Kathy- thanks that is a good idea, i might have to try it. We never use the dining room and always eat on the couch!

Manon- I really like the garden stool you posted...do you have a link toot and similar things? I couldn't find it by browsing houzz.

backbonemountain Since everything is squared up in the TV room. Push the TV cabinet closer to the wall where the hanging is, then slide the TV as close to that same wall and angle it some. That would also get the cabinet away from the sliding door.

We like to put our feet up when watching TV, so I would vote for two small, padded square ottomans (Is there another name for those? I can't think of it right now:) ) I like your cozy TV room.

I do think the drapes are not right. Maybe another shade of yellow?

Manon Floreat Hi, veryanya. I found the garden stool here:

http://www.rubbishinteriors.com/product/Red-Chinese-Carved-Wood-Garden-Stool-Occasional-Table-257

Here a couple of others you might find comparable through Wisteria:

http://www.wisteria.com/Side-Tables-Pedestals/products/1008/

And another through Wayfair:

http://www.wayfair.com/Urban-Trends-18-Red-Ceramic-Garden-Stools-with-Open-Work-Finish-70636-URT1406.html

The garden stool seems to be a popular item. You'll have a good chance of finding the right one.

veryanya Thanks Manon! As soon as I searched garden stool in the photo section I found many photos with the colorful style that I like. I did not even know about garden stools until today :) I will look around...

veryanya Thanks backbonemountain. I will try pushing the tv table closer to the wall tomorrow.

So you think drapes are ok but a different color?? I have tried gray, burgundy and now beige/neutral over the past few months. So far I like the neutral best... I was looking at yellow before but did not try those jn the end since jm finding i dont want too much yellow (i like yhe color but my entire first floor is that color!) I think they might be hung wrong or else I need blinds instead... Hang them lower maybe...

backbonemountain If you open and close the drapes often, you might get rid of them and put a wide, covered board valance (I don't know what they are called. Header?) Have a hidden board in the middle so you can install two pull down shades-one for each window. If you want to keep the drapes, are they light enough that the middle one could be tied in a know half way down? How about putting some wording on the wall above the window? Maybe a black rod would make a difference since your wall hanging has a dark border. Or maybe add a black border or stripe to the drapes.

furrytoes Since your sofa appears to be white, and your dining chairs are white, have you considered white drapes? I know it sounds boring, but there is something very fresh and welcoming (IMHO) about yellow and white.
I would be very comfortable in your space -- yellow walls, wood floors, colorful pictures/wall hangings, and cats!
Is there any turquoise in your beautiful wall hanging? Since you have the turquoise table, you might want to repeat the color in pillows and other decorative objects -- even a garden stool.
I like the soft color of the rug Manon picked out for your space. I've even added it to my own idea book...

veryanya Hi furry :) I like your profile pic! I am one step ahead of you- the couch is actually exactly matching to the drapes in a light beige/linen color. Its not witw at all. But i have white drapes upstairs so I might try that as well..,

After all the comments here I think I realized a few things

- I hate the drapes right now because they are tab top on a skinny rod. This looks weird and so i will change that. They may also be too high up, by just a smidge.
- I need to get a tone on tone rug like manon's suggestion (though hubby did not like that particular pattern so I'm still looking)
- I need a garden stool maybe two! Turquoise is a good idea, or red.
- I need a clear table though its hard to find the right size for that space.
Only after I find a rug will I Look for pillows...
