My husband built this desk for me. I'm not fond of the hardware I picked out for it. I want a more transitional look. I can't decide on a style or finish. What do you think of these pulls?
Debbie I'm more confused now. I was hoping for an overwhelming response for one of the choices, but I got more None of the Aboves than I expected. Should I go with another finish or another style? I've got to special order whatever I get and I can't return them. If it helps, I ordered this chair for the desk.
Debbie I have replaced all the door knobs in the house with satin nickel and tend to lean toward the nickel as I replace fixtures. There is a ceiling fan in the home office and it's the oil rubbed bronze. However, I'm thinking of moving it to the guest room and getting another light fixture. What do you think of this one? It's flat black.
nononanna The nickel is kind of bright for the desk, but the rubbed bronze is dark - the black above is too much black, but another slimmer one would be good in black. OR something simple in bronze.
Why do you have to special order them - is it an odd size?
Debbie I would have to special order if I go with the cup pull. The current pulls are 3" centers. All the cup pulls I find in local stores are 2 1/2" or 4" centers.
nononanna What if you spray painted the ones you have now in black to see if you like the black? I think the cup pulls are a little too stylized - is the rest of the house in that style?
Debbie The rest of the house is a mishmash of everything. I'm slowly moving from traditional to transitional as we remodel. Here's a pic of the other side of the room. I posted this on another thread about paint color. I'm going to paint this room SW Silvermist and incorporate the changes suggested on the other thread.
Debbie Thanks, nononanna. I tend to agree the cup pulls are too country. I did a search for examples and found this. I kind of like this look, similar to what janishill suggested. I'm not sure about polished brass, though. My husband is a carpenter. He builds the tables and does all the millwork for a well known restaurant chain. He is very talented! He's also very handy around the house.
nononanna Yours is better, don't you think? Even if your husband didn't make it, I'd think it was prettier. But these handles are nice. The kind of handles that lay flat but then move when you use them are comfortable to use. The more I think about it the more I like the idea of black.
Debbie Of course I think mine is prettier! :) It's one of a kind. I like the idea of spray painting the ones I have black to see what they look like. I plan on replacing them anyway.
momof5x I have seen those handles Debbie, almost exact. Very nice ! They are similar to what we are choosing for our inbuilt closets. We vote as a family on the choices of several my hubby brings in from contractors, and pick three. Husband will then decide which one of them he will have the carpenters fix on closets. We have done that for everything in our new home from doors to paint etc..
I love the desk , especially the shelving.. could always do with more space but this time decided to use a console table with a lower shelf and have a couple of book cases for filing work etc.. Going slim so to say to make more space.
Debbie I'm liking them. The cup pull in this collection is pretty, too. Not too old fashioned. I wish I could try them both on first! The votes sure weigh heavy to the cup pulls, but I'm leaning towards the drop pull I posted.

Does your husband make other furniture? This one is wonderful.
