Need help choosing accent pillows for my living room.
Do these patterns work together? My couch is white and my area rug is blue. I also have some wall art with touches of orange in it. I'm hoping accent pillows will pull it all together. Please advise!

wickedwhite Here are a couple more I'm considering.
Jayme Hobbs I sounds like the first would work and second may work...can u post some pics of your room? That helps a lot to get better ideas from others..thanks :)
wickedwhite And here's the wall art and the rug.
wickedwhite Hi Jayme. I'll post pictures once my boyfriend gets off the couch! Do any of the above help?
wickedwhite Here are a couple more pictures of the room. What do people think about the blue and chartreuse ikat fabric I posted? Does it work with the orange floral?
Jayme Hobbs @wickedwhite...Hi!! Are the pics above wall hangings? It is so much easier to tell once a room is shown..it the flowered one matches..but lots of patterns going on..Doesn't mean it couldn't work..just hard to assess without the room.
Jayme Hobbs From pic, seems like not enough blue in the floral? Maybe the blue pattern would look better...
wickedwhite Yes both pieces of art hang on the wall. I'm having a difficult time pulling in the orange from the monk picture without overwhelming all the other colours and patterns in the room.
feeny I'm not convinced by either of those initial fabrics for the cushions. I LOVE your rug and think that cushions in blue and white with a bit of coral in them to pick up the artwork would be ideal.
wickedwhite Thanks Feeny. I love the rug too. Any fabric examples would be greatly appreciated!
soberg Really pretty pillow fabric but not right for your room as it has no blue. You need a bold print with blue and coral. Not sure about the ice white sofa on the dark cream rug...that seems to need some bridging too.
feeny I've been scanning the products section looking for a perfect combination in an ikat fabric, but I'm finding great ones in blue and white and great ones in coral and white, but not much that I like with the three together. Another option would be to combine pillows in those colors on the sofa. The palette I'm looking for is the same as this ikat rug, but I'm having trouble finding it in a pillow:

Jayme Hobbs Maybe a larger pattern with blue
2 months ago · ·
Jayme Hobbs Whoops..sorry..posted same pic x2...missed one
2 months ago ·
Jayme Hobbs Don't think u necessarily have to pull in the coral accents into pillows...it seems to stand well on it's own..but could go either way.
feeny Maybe something involving combinations of the blues and orange/corals in these? Not sure about the orange/corals. That's what's throwing me. The blue and white cushions would all look great.
wickedwhite Hi Soberg. The rug is actually ice blue -- almost silver -- not cream. The dark medallions are also a darker blue. Hope that works with the white sofa..?
wickedwhite Jayme -- your pillows appear to be really nice. The picture is so small though. What is the name of the fabric? Or can you post a larger pic?
wickedwhite Hi Feeny. Great suggestions! Do you think I can mix the pillows? Maybe a blue on the couch and a coral on the chair? I've also heard that blues can be tricky because they come in so many hues. How important is it to match it the rug? Or even the wall art?
feeny Lots of different blues can go together, so I think you are fine with the different blue and white patterns on the ikat pillows. I'd be tempted to put two blue and white and two of the orange or coral and white ones on the couch (two pillows in each corner, one of each color) and then one more of either color on the chair. I also think you could do just different blue and white cushions and it would look great too. It just doesn't tie in your artwork as effectively. But you could bring the corals from the artwork into the room in other ways--with a few decorative pieces of pottery or glasswork, for example on the tables or shelves. But the more you can match at least one of the blue pillows to the blue in your rug and any coral you use to the shade in your artwork, the better.
P.S. I like Jayme's pillows too!
wickedwhite Yes. I like them a lot... especially the patterned one.
Lori Jones I would combine the following 3 pillows.....the Ikat - Indigo Blue, Khanjali one that you have and the burnt orange block print Lumbar. Good Luck!
wickedwhite I also have a bench in the adjacent dining room... that has some teal and chartreuse in it.
Jayme Hobbs Here are a few more from overstock.com I am going to throw out
2 months ago · ·
Lori Jones I love the one with the birds above that Jayme posted.....I think it would tie everything together with the other pillows I suggested. Maybe have it in the middle of the couch......
wickedwhite Wow! Lots to choose from. I really like the Ikat indigo blue ones. I think they will work well with the sofa and rug. Do you think the khanjali would work on the dining room bench?
wickedwhite Hi Lori. I like your choices. Where would you place the pillows? I like the burnt orange lumbar one, but I just found this. What do you think?
wickedwhite Hi lori. Yes. I agree that bird one is really nice. Middle of the couch is a great suggestion.
Jayme Hobbs A few of mine may be too traditional looking.
wickedwhite Nope! I really like the first patterned one you posted. I'm trying to find it.
Lori Jones Yes I like the new ones you just posted "wickedwhite" too.....I am trying to post a power point where I put them all together....can you see it?
Jayme Hobbs @wickedwhite, if u mean the homedecorators.com patterned one I posted...I think It was under "blue" or "white" under pillows...hope that helps.
Lori Jones The new ones that you found probably work better with the monk picture as far as color goes.
Lori Jones depending on how many pillows you want on the couch......you could put the bird one in the middle and then maybe the two blue ones and the Khanjali ones on the outer ends......but like I said....I love the color of the coral/orangey ones you just found.
wickedwhite Thanks Lori. The coral ones I just found are on a natural linen background. Do you think that will work with the other ones? The chair is natural linen.
wickedwhite Hi Jayme. I meant the very first one you posted. I can't find it!
wickedwhite Hi Lori. No I don't see your powerpoint..?
Luvs2Read I would choose pillows that have orange in them to bring out the orange in the pictures. This is just my humble opinion!
laursiedoone You could bring in a little hint of the coral by using it as a nice pop of colour for piping on blue patterned cushions.
CMR Interiors & Design Consultations Inc. You'd be better off with a dark brown sofa...bridge things a bit.
wickedwhite Thanks Luvs2Read. Do any of these work? Or am I trying too hard to pull the blue and coral together? The piping is nice idea.. might be all I need.
Lori Jones I love the Schumacher one....I like the Phi Coral one - but I don't think it goes with the
rest of the room.....with the art, etc.....the Bird Cage one is cool too. If you want to send me your email I can email you the power point....you can just pull pictures into it and see what they look like together.
wickedwhite Here are a few more coral and white ones. I still like the Ikat ones though. Thoughts?
wickedwhite One more!
wickedwhite Hi Lori. I'm not sure I want to publish my email address...
Jayme Hobbs I like the bird one...and u have a grey tone/silver in ther rug...
Jayme Hobbs @wickedwhite..u can go to an ideabook of who u want to give your email to, and make the comment "private"...
wickedwhite Hi jayme, I do like that bird one a lot. I'm just concerned the blue is darker than the silver in my rug..
Jayme Hobbs The bird one does have bright colors, but ties in better than one with just the orange/or bold patterned orange/white I feel..could be wrong
2 months ago ·
wickedwhite So I think I've narrowed it down to these choices. What do people think? I don't want to make a mistake! I think I'm leaning towards the hot house (as opposed to the bird), but considering one of these two blue prints as well to mix it up.

Jayme Hobbs With the bird pillow, I would choose the smaller patterned blue one pictured...Or the flowered one with the smaller patterned blue one. There r 3 larger patterns and one smaller..so I wouldn't put two large patterns together.
Jayme Hobbs which one is the hot house?
wickedwhite Thanks Jayme. It's the one with the orange flower (not the bird). I agree the smaller blue works better with both, but not sure about the white background against the bird pillow? Oatmeal might be a better pair for that one?
Marie Hebson's interiorsBYDESIGN Inc. No - they do not work together.

If you are wanting something with white, orange and blue - then find that "magic" toss cushions that has all three colours in it. I'd keep looking...

I would stay with your floral multi-colour -then extract blue and orange from it.

If not, then change out your pattern that has all the colours you need in it - then add to that. Good Luck.
wickedwhite Wow I like that blue and white chevron! Do you think the original floral works with my rug and art though? Some were suggesting to go with a bolder print, which is why I'm considering the bird and orange flower one above..
Jayme Hobbs @wickedwhite..do u want to go more casual?
wickedwhite I think I could go either way. For me the priority is to improve the coordination in the room. I have a lot of colours and patterns happening right now. I just want to tie it altogether. Whatever works best! Do you think I should keep the original floral? Does it work in my room?
wickedwhite If I do keep the floral and go with the chevron, I worry the colours will disappear into my white couch. Should I consider a third pattern to anchor it? Maybe something in orange? I like the stripe Marie posted, but I'm not sure it's the same orange as the floral..? Do any of these work?
Jayme Hobbs I like chevron but wondered if your room isn't a little more elegant...I think adding in too many patterns will be too busy. Of the last 2 u posted...the lighter colored one, white with orangish pattern..I like best..and think they would go with your floral pillows.
wickedwhite Hi Jayme. I see your point. Do you think the one with the bird can stand on its own? And do you think it will match with the rug?
Jayme Hobbs From what I can see, the blue is not so different from the rug..but I cannot see them side by side. The pillow has a grey background, so it will introduce a darker grey than the silver in the rug....but won't clash, I wouldn't think...
wickedwhite What do we think of this one? The background is seafoam though.. not blue.
wickedwhite No orange in this one, but the blues are nice.
Jayme Hobbs Not sure on this one...hard to tell, looks blue..does it have any of the blue like the rug?
Jayme Hobbs Like the peacock one.
wickedwhite A few more!
wickedwhite I like the peacock one too. Do you think it would work on the dining room bench? Pic posted earlier.
wickedwhite These have all three colours. Thoughts?
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Dont mix the 2 florals...pic one floral or ikat and pair with a solid. Too busy and you've muddled your "statement" by mixing the 2.
wickedwhite Hi julie. I'm not looking to mix them. Just trying to find the best pattern to match my living room. See pics above. I have a little orange in some artwork that I was trying to tie in, but not sure it's necessary?
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. My personal choice would be the one on the left as it has more blue, however I find the florals a little dated.....the irate are more current. Really large scale florals are more current too, that is florals with a large repeat, I have this one in my workroom with grays and blues from Designers Guild, may not be your taste but its from their latest collection...
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Meant to say ikat not irate....iPad again!
wickedwhite Thanks Julie. What do you think of the peacock one above? Or the one with the orange bird?
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. I like the blue ikat think it was feeny suggested paired with the orange trellis/scale design you posted first. Important that the blue is the same blue in the rug, not a different blue.
wickedwhite Do you mean these two?
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Yes the one on the left but not the orange. I meant the first orange one you showed with the small scale design.....it is good to mix large scale like the ikat, with small scale or solid.
wickedwhite this one ?
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Yes
wickedwhite Thanks Julie. What size pillows would you do in these two patterns? And where would you place them? (I also have a natural linen chair next to the white sofa.)
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. I looked at the floral pillows above on your sofa, they look a smudge small, on the blue ikat go a little bigger say an inch bigger all around...so large pattern, larger pillow. For your armchairs a lumbar size (rectangular) in the orange would be good.....I hate too many pillows on a sofa. I have 3 each side on mine at home and it is a constant battle putting them back on it after the kids have been there, plus it leaves no room to sit! I would just stick to the pair on the sofa.
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. If you only have one armchair, then maybe one other longer lumbar in the orange on the sofa.....like longer sideways in between the other 2?
wickedwhite Hi Julie. I love that Ikat blue, but I don't think it's the same as my rug. My rug isn't as bright. Other suggestions?
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Guaranteed there is an ikat out there that matches the rug. Try Calico corners website and get cuttings , or your local home dec fabric store, and get pillows made.
wickedwhite I think the blue in this Ikat is a better match. And it has the silver grey of the rug. The turquoise and green are throwing me a little. Too many colours?

I know i"ve bombarded you here....I threw in some solid orange velvets that could be trimmed with the border tape at the end. If you have a signature pattern on one set of pillows, let the other ones not compete with pattern and throw in a solid, so that the main pattern stands alone. You already have pattern in your rug, don't throw in a 3rd.
wickedwhite Hi Julie. Are you suggesting. I do one patterned pillow and one solid velvet? I agree I don't want too may patterns competing with each other. You've sent lots of great suggestions. I like them all!
wickedwhite What do you think of this one? It seems to have the same blue as my rug.
wickedwhite I sort of like these too.
mjmil I like this one suggested by Julie Thome: http://www.fschumacher.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?sku=3498001 with the orange trelis one above or this solid soft orange velvet :http://www.fschumacher.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?sku=68134
2 months ago · ·
wickedwhite Yes! This Sahana one is stunning. I think it pulls in the right blues.
wickedwhite Hi Julie. I really like the Suhana Ikat you suggested from Schumacher. Is the background cream? It looks a little yellow on my monitor. Also.. how large is the print? Just wondering what it will look like on a 22 inch pillow. Thanks for the great suggestion! I think I'm finally making progress!
wickedwhite hi again julie. is this what it looks like?
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Yep that looks like it...it has a 25" vertical repeat..but with ikats even part of the full repeat looks good. Where did you find that pillow?
laurakaplandesigns I think blue paisley pillows and significantly larger than you have would be best. Then accent with coral -- sparingly. Check out Barclay Butera, you already have his vibe going on. Some of the florals/patterns suggested here are too grandma-like. Your space looks way cool and hip!
wickedwhite Hi Julie. I found that one on Etsy, but they only have one left. I need two. Any idea where I can find a pair? What do you think of the other two blue ikat prints above?
wickedwhite Hi Laura. Do you have suggestions to post? I definitely want to be hip and current.. not grandma. :)
Is this closer to what you had in mind?
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. I like all the other ikat prints. Ikat is not a granny print, I think the floral above you have chosen is borderline granny, sorry. If you wanted a pair of the Schumacher ikat you could get them made.
I think if you introduce orange as one rectangular pillow for the armchair and then in one or 2 other small items int he room such as a ceramic vase or art glass, or as some detail in a picture or on anther upholstered piece such as a small ottoman for instance.
It's a Beautiful World! Perhaps, you want to choose your accessories to complement the art and not to distract from it. If you enjoy the artwork and think it should be the focus of your room, opt for less busy less bright patterns on your pillows. Otherwise, your guests will notice the pillows but will entirely miss your good taste in art :)... Raisa
2 months ago · ·
wickedwhite Hi Raisa. Good advice. I'm leaning towards a blue ikat. Do you think it's too busy?
wickedwhite Hi Julie. I agree.. I love the Ikats and feel like florals are dated and paisleys just aren't my thing. I can't seem to find the Schumacher online anywhere. Do you know where I can order it? Also.. do you have any suggestions for a solid orange? As you say, if I add a few accessories, an orange pillow may not be necessary.
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Schumacher is through designers. My suggestions for orange were above as a solid velvet pillow with trim. Use orange 3 times in the room somehow if you want to make it a convincing part of your color scheme.
It's a Beautiful World! You could use smaller patterns and more subdued shades of your accent colors, especially coral. I have browsed through all the pictures in this discussion and saw the one you had chosen originally, with small pattern in coral. That's the idea of pattern size and color intensity, I would use this one or something similar to that.

For blue, you could even use solid color that you can pull from the blue painting or the rug, with no prominent patterns or designs on it, just some color and texture to brigten up the couch. I am sure you will get a lot more suggestions from professional designers here, I am an artist and not a designer although I have worked with a few. Hope this helps a bit... Raisa

Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Just this minute saw this on my fb feed and thought of you wickedwhite....
http://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/beginners-luck?src=spr_FBPAGE&spr_id=1452_7372840#slide-1

where they have used some red you could substitute orange.... but it is basically your room...!?
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. If you check out all the pics in the elledecor spread, you can see how they incorporate pops of the orange/red with a basically white and some blue interior. Follow their formula if you like it.
wickedwhite Wow! Thanks Julie. That is definitely the room I'm trying to achieve. It's absolutely breathtaking. I love the ikat pillows on the couch.. and the bright orange one on the sidetable... and I see what you mean by the rule of three. It's definitely pleasing on the eye. Really balance outs the overall look.
wickedwhite How do these look together? I found the orange velvet one at CB2 in 23x23. Is that the right size?
wickedwhite And here's the Madeline Weinrib you just sent me. I can't find anyone who sells it though. Absolutely love it though.
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. I think the 23x23 is good for the sofa, but too big for the armchair. I think a rectangle for the armchair and you need to measure it for the size. If you think a 23x23 works for the armchair...try it out if you already have a 23x23 and see if it's too much for the chair.
laurakaplandesigns Hi again-- the florals seem to be more dated--- check out Barclay Butera's Beach rooms http://www.barclaybuterahome.com/interiors_beach.html. I thought of that with your white sofas. Think layers-- of patterns (mix up the sizes) and color. The Barclay room above has blue and white - paisley is classic, the ikats are popular now. I love the direction you're going with the drapery gal (sorry if I botched her name).
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Did you look on the Madeline Weinrib site...you can key in your state or a nearby state and see who sells it retail. Large selection of pillows on her site!
wickedwhite Hi Julie - do you think I can do the 23x23 (orange) and a 20x20 (ikad) on either end of the sofa? And then a rectangular ikat on the chair? Would that work? A 23x23 would definitely be too big on the chair.
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. I think that would be fine. I like the ikat to be bigger than the orange but if you like that combination that should be fine. Make sure you accessorize the room too and introduce your colors elsewhere in touches, and don't limit the color to pillows.
wickedwhite Thanks Julie. What size rectangular pillow do I need? My chair seat is 19 inches wide at the back and 29 inches wide at the front. Also.. how many yards would I need for three pillows? Rectangular and 2 20x20?
wickedwhite Can I find retailers on the Weinrib site?
wickedwhite Hi Laura. I also like your barclay buttera suggestions. I think I'll stick with the Ikat though. I'm not sure I want to commit to a beach theme year 'round..
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Wickedwhite....for the rectangular pillow, I would get a 14x20, which would fill out to look more like a 12 x 18, for that one 1 yd would do.
For the ikat I would need to know the repeat info on the fabric.....if there are 2 motifs across the fabric you could get front and back out of one vertical motif (25" in the case of the Schumacher one), so about 1 1/2 yds, and I'd make it 2 yds if you wanted to get some welting as well.
JMittman Designs Julie--funny--I saw that same link you posted and thought of this thread too!
anumaura Hi wickedwhite, you have plenty of options now it seems.. hope ur going with printed/bird sort and not the geometric/chevron sort.. your room is pretty b/w..
wickedwhite Hi Anumaura, Thanks for the input. Of the ones I've posted, which one are you leaning towards?
wickedwhite Hi JMittman -- that room in Elledecor is to die for! Thanks for thinking of me.
wickedwhite Hi Julie. I'm now inclined to go with your suggestion of the larger pillow (24X24) in the Ikat print. And the small lumbar one in the orange. How many yards of the Madeline Weinrib would I need for two 24X24 pillows? Thanks in advance. You have been a huge help so far!
Julie Thome Draperies, Inc. Well the website says it will sell a 24x24 pillow, or you could get fabric and have them made. I would have to get the price of the fabric and the repeat before I could tell you that. If the repeat is approx 24" on the vertical, 2 yds would cover it, including welt. You could contact me on my pro listing if you wish me to find out this information. You may find that it's cheaper to buy the one they list, I would have to get that price for you too.
anumaura hi, I have added pillows around your room views, as well as, kept your inspiration alongside it.. this should help.. pillows are numbered too.. also added your paintings that you wish to work around.....

i vote for 1 & 8 :p :)
if you want the original file let me know
9 weeks ago · ·
anumaura https://www.jossandmain.com/London-Calling-William-Pillow~KX3744~E3747.html you could add two of these.. n two different ones from the orange shades.. i-e no. 11 (the plain orange) & one more printed orange-blue thing.. add an orangish/rusty coloured shawl on your armchair, but tucked under the main seat of it, n allowed to hang from under it.

i really like these jossandmain cushions.. they're on sale too.. n would go with any other colour schemes as they are basic n classy.. but they say the shade's name is 'midnight'.. hmm..
wickedwhite Hi anumaura. I love what you've done here. And yes.. I would appreciate the original file. I see you've done a variety of smaller pillows. Do you think that's a better way to go than two large ones and a couple of lumbers?
anumaura please let me know how to send it to you through houzz or otherwise... i think two large will def look good on sofa n lumbar piece on chair..

Otherwise i can do for you 1 look of your own choosing: so far what you've finalized is (correct me if wrong):
1) sofa: 2 larger pillows (24X24) in the Ikat print (please point me that print) & 2 small lumbar one (please give me dimensions) in the orange on sofa ends...
2) chair: rectangular ikat cushion (please point me print) of 12x20 which when stuffed looks 12 x 18 inches...

also tell me what is the height from top of seat to top edge of back portion of sofa & front width of one seat of sofa for scaling the cushion size to your sofas..
wickedwhite Hi anumaura,
My sofa is down and feather stuffed.. So the back height ranges anywhere from 16 to 20 inches high (depending on how much I fluff the seat cushions). And the seat cushions are each 33 inches wide.
wickedwhite The blue and white cushion I like is the Madeline Weinrib in the inspiration shot (not sure if it is an ikat?). I am considering two 24 x 24 (or smaller) in that print. And two rectangular in a burnt orange velvet (similar to the square crate and barrell one I posted earlier). I would place one on the armchair and the other in the centre of the sofa. Not sure on dimensions yet..

wickedwhite hi anumaura -- is there a way for me to send you my email address?

wickedwhite Here's another option
Jayme Hobbs Choose a look u like and go with it..u did a good job before this post so u have a good eye....go for it!
wickedwhite Thanks Jayme. I'm still searching for that sweet spot. I guess when you know, you know.
wickedwhite I did a little shopping today. Unfortunately, my rug is out for cleaning. But what do you think? Am I on the right track?
wickedwhite Another angle.
Jayme Hobbs U need two of the IKAT (I think) that u have on the left side of sofa-on both sides.....either two "orangish" next...and one smaller pattern blue in center..and/or Orange in middle and two smaller pattern blue/white next to end pillows.
wickedwhite Do you mean like this? But balanced on both sides?
wickedwhite Oops
quixie In the photo to the right you have a lamp in front of the art not highlighting it. My two cents, change that.
Jayme Hobbs Yes
wickedwhite Hi copperpot. Maybe it's the angle? Here's the look from the front door.
Jayme Hobbs Give me strength...but I think that orange is too bold...I had these doubts before..your scheme is not so loud.
Jayme Hobbs And may I add, it is lovely...
wickedwhite Yeah. I'm a little worried the orange is too bold. They had a softer coral in the same fabric..? Or should I lose it altogether?
Jayme Hobbs I had that concern before with those bolds...that's why I kept choosing the predominantly white backgrounds....Your total scheme is calmer, and softer...and that is lovely.
wickedwhite Thanks Jayme! I love it. Just want to keep it fresh.

wickedwhite While we're at it. Here's another angle of the room. A little less soft from this angle and shows the orange art.
Jayme Hobbs That orange pillow seems too loud to me...What do u want to achieve..Wickedwhite? Go for the look u want...if u want the bold accent..do it.
wickedwhite Do you think the ikat is too bold too? I can return the pillows.
wickedwhite Here's the room without the orange. Better? Does the ikat print work? Or should I go for a softer, more muted pallette?
wickedwhite I'm not hearing a lot of love for the ikat and orange! What do people think of these softer options?
wickedwhite or these?

wickedwhite two more!

Carolyn McNurlen Ineed help with pillows for a couch that is Chianti in color. A rustic burgund. I have two print chairs with earth colors in the same room. Help/
8 weeks ago ·
feeny @Carolyn,
I'm sure people here will be happy to help you, but you'll need to start your own Design Dilemma post so people don't get confused which question they are answering.
wickedwhite Hi Jayme. What do you think of this one? Is this more appropriate?
quixie I have not read all the post and can only keep my comments brief, but start with one unifying factor, say shape. Think of everything in your space as a flat line drawing. Are the same shapes mimicked? If yes, then you have one of the elements and principles of design checked off the list. Do not get overwhelmed. This should be fun. If it's not fun, you won't feel good when your done and living in the space. PS I LOVE your comfy couches. Good Choice!
wickedwhite Hi copperpot, How do you define shape? Do you shape of furniture and architecture? Or do you mean motifs on fabric? Thanks so much. I am having fun! And learning a tonne...
brody1313 Looking at your pictures, I would do a blue and white pillow w/lots of white that "matches" your blue in your rug ..love the ikat if you can get the color right......get that settled then go from there....not loving the orange.....don't overdo w/pillows everywhere...keep it soft ..you have lovely taste....good luck
8 weeks ago · ·
wickedwhite Hi Brody1313. Do you mean something like this? This is heavy on the white and seems to be the same blue as my rug.
wickedwhite These two also have the same blue as my rug.. although only one has white. The other one is interesting though.
mjmil I like the pillow on the right it is a little bit softer. I still think that would look nice with the pale orange velvet pillow.

this looks perfect.. i think mjmil also liked it, if am not wrong.

you know what take a hint from that elle decor pic, add all blu-ish cushions.. even after that if you feel you need a orang-ish sort, then add a subtle orange sort, same on chair and middle of sofa..

also, http://st.houzz.com/simgs/4f326291014f1928_7-8283/home-design.jpg this is perfect for neutral cushion.

with this lumbar pillow-cushion http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/778557

sorry, for the delay, i was away for the weekend.. i attached a pic of your recent choices.. i don't know how to privately exchange email addresses on houzz unfortunately..

you know what take a hint from that elle decor pic, use only blu-ish cushions.. even after that if you feel you need an orang-ish sort, then add a subtle orange/coral sort in lumbar pieces, same on chair and middle of sofa..

if you forego orange/coral in cushions, then someone mentioned above to add orange in 3 items elsewhere in the room, which makes sense.. that way, without changing cushions, you could change accents from orange to pink later on or any other colours easily..

quixie I look at Everything as a flat line drawing from the front first. Yep, Everything light fixtures, pillows, chairs, frames...I don't know if you know how to do a line drawing. If not, here's how, in short, hopefully, or this is going to be really boring as well as gramatically incorrect. You take a piece of paper put it on a steady surface in front of you, look at what is in front of you and draw it with your hand don't look down. Another idea, I have that may work, never tried it, would be take a photograph, photos are 2D and then trace the outilines with a soft white pencil. If you try this let me know how it goes. Thanks!
wickedwhite Okay. I'll try that. I'd like a little more feedback from everyone on the blue and white pillows I purchased on the weekend. Do they work? I have until Friday to return them.
mjmil Sorry Wicedwhite I am not sure which ones you purchased. Could you show them again please.
wickedwhite Hi mjmil. Scoll up a little. I took pictures of them on my sofa yesterday morning. I bought two blue and white ones.
Ann I like the blue and white ones you purchased for the sofa, but not so well on the chair. I think the second one you said was interesting in your most recent post would look very nice on the chair if the size is right.
Ann By the way, I think your house (and decorating) are beautiful! I love your artwork too, especially the piece with the coral robes. I thought the orange pillow was a bit strong, but I do think one softer coral lumbar pillow in the center of the sofa would be nice.
Ann You have some flowers in a silver pot on a chest - that would be a great coral color.
Mona Ives wow we decorators love our pillows!
mjmil I think the pillows you have selected look great. I agree with Ann adding an coral/orange lumbar pillow in the center would be the perfect accent. Love what you have done so far.
wickedwhite Okay. I got my rug back from the cleaners. What do you think? I'm concerned the blues in the pillow aren't right. The darker blue appears more "jean blue" next to the rug. And the light blue in the rug appears more green or aqua compared to the pillow. Thoughts?
Ann I like them! I think the differences you pointed out are slight and not a problem.
mjmil I agree I think the pillows don't have to match perfectly instead compliment each other.
quixie I would move the artwork to a spot in the middle of the dresser top and the tops of the window frames, and keep the lamp shades but look around for some different table lamps.
wickedwhite How do these pillows work?
Ann I like the previous blue and white pillows better. How do the blue and white pillows look with the tan throw, because the throw really ties the chair nicely into the mix?
mjmil I like the first set of pillows better
7 weeks ago · ·
wickedwhite Hi Ann, here's the throw with the other pillow. What do you think?
anumaura Looks good
wickedwhite Do I need two ikats of the same size? One on each side? Or can I do smaller on one side?
Jayme Hobbs One of the same size on each end of sofa is what I would do.
wickedwhite Thanks jayme!
Jayme Hobbs @wickedwhite..You're welcome:)
Ann I really like that blue pillow and like it with the throw too. I agree with one on each side. Do you still have the little blue pillow too. I also liked it and think you could get away with just one of those.
Ann Since so many pillows were discussed, I thought I'd better clarify. By little blue pillow, I mean the one with diamonds from just a few pictures ago.
wickedwhite Darn! I just tried to buy a second blue ikat, and they're sold out. Just my luck. This turquoise is a no go right?
Ann I think that one is a bit too gold. There were two similar ones pictured earlier with more of the tan/beige of the chair that were very nice. Bummer about the second blue pillow - I love that one. Can you order it from the store or online?
Ann The two I liked for the chair were in your posts about "softer options" (1st one in that post) and "the same blue as my rug" (2nd one in that post).
wickedwhite I agree. There is too much yellow/green in that one. Back to the drawing board! I kinda like these two. I'm attaching another shot of my rug. Do they work together? As much as I like the bold fabrics, I'm starting to think I need to keep the look soft to match the rest of the room.
Ann I like the second of these two very much. I think the first would work just fine, but for some reason I just don't like it much. Do you think it's possible that this second one would work with the previous "same blue as my rug" second one - I keep coming back to that one since I like it so much. If that previous one looks nice on the couch, it would be another way (in addition to the throw) to really tie the chair to the couch.
wickedwhite Hi Ann, I agree the second one is really nice. I like it more and more every time I look at it. Pricey though! Is this the one you think would work with the chair?
Ann Yes
wickedwhite I'm not sure that one works with the other two though. Seems like too much blue?
Ann Oh I must be a bit behind. I'm not sure which other two you're trying to work with. Is it the two from the "here's the room without the orange" post? If so, I'm thinking you were unable to get a second one of that larger Ikat. Are you thinking of keeping the one Ikat and getting the new pricey one for the other end of the couch?
Ann Another one that really caught my eye in this discussion is the first one with all the beige in your "softer options" post. That one seemed like a possible nice option for the chair.
wickedwhite Hi Ann. I want to get two of the same print for either end of the sofa. The ikat I liked was sold out. They only had one pillow. So now I'm leaning towards the blue and white I posted this wknd. I like the softer option you suggest for the chair, but not sure it goes with the other blue and the rug..? The softer option is aqua.. Not indigo.
Ann Yeah, I think the same print for both ends is a good idea. The one you posted this wknd (on the right) is a great choice. The chair is fine without any pillows. One additional smaller rectangular pillow for the sofa would be nice, but no hurry on that. Maybe you'll eventually stumble across a great one with the coral color in it.
wickedwhite Alright I realize it's just a throw pillow, and I know I've tossed around a million ideas, but I really want to get this right! I want something that makes a statement, but still reads classy and sophisticated. I've given up on trying to tie in the coral colour. (I think my art stands on its own anyways.) What do you think of these? Do they work with my rug?
wickedwhite Here's the rug again:
Recreate and Decorate You can always add coral in your accessories. Don't completely rule it out! :-) and you can always use a small coral print pillow in the chair or a coral throw.
wickedwhite Thanks Wanda. You're right. A few people have suggested coral accessories: books, glassware etc. I'll keep my eyes open for something. Do you like any of the fabrics I posted this morning?
Ann I like the 4th one for the sofa. I kind of like 3 also (especially for the chair as a lumbar pillow).
wickedwhite Yes. I just bought the third one for the chair. Is the first one (turquoise) too loud for the sofa?
Ann No, I don't think it's too loud - I just liked the 4th one a lot better and thought the colors of it were perfect.
wickedwhite Hi Ann, Turns out the 4th is out of my price range. My boyfriend isn't crazy about the turquoise one. What do you think of these two? Do either work?
Ann I kind of have to agree with your boyfriend about the turquoise one. Too bad about 4 being expensive. I like both of these two new choices. I think the second feels a bit "summery" but I like it very much.
wickedwhite I find the second one really pretty, but I think the 1st one is more practical. I really like the pattern too. And so does my boyfriend..
Ann I agree that the first is more practical and it's very nice too. Do you still have the single lumbar pillow that you bought with a blue and white diamond pattern? That might be nice to place with one of these new ones you've chosen on just one end of the couch.
wickedwhite Great suggestion! I took it back, but I can probably find another one.
wickedwhite Good news! I just found out I can get two pillows in this blue ikat! I think it's the perfect match for the rug. Second cover should be ready in about week. Looking back over this post, the choice seems like a no brainer. Thanks for all your help and patience. :)
Ann Oh that is good news. Can you get that smaller rectangular one too - I think I remember you returned the one in this picture. I love them together!
Ann I also looked back over the post and agree you've got the best option (by far) with the blue ikat - so glad you could get a second one after all!
mjmil It was a lot of work but sometimes decorating can be that way. I think the choice is beautiful. I also agree with Ann that the smaller rectangular pillow look great with the Ikat.
wickedwhite Hi Ann. Yes! I managed to get the blue and white diamond one too. I like it next to the Ikat on the couch. Genevieve -- I love that lamp. Great suggestion. Mjmil -- I couldn't agree more. Somethings are worth the fuss and the wait!
wickedwhite I bought some of this fabric because I had given up on my search for the blue ikat. Do you think I can still use it on the chair? I can probably get a couple of 20X20 or two lumbar pillows out of it...
Ann Yes - I think a lumber pillow out of that fabric would be great on the chair.
Joan McLemore You might find Ikat fabric that you would like at Spoonflower. I see a lot of custom designed Ikat fabrics and wallpaper at Spoonflower.
wickedwhite Hi Joan, If you read up a bit, I did find the blue ikat yesterday. I've solved the dilemma for my couch. I'm just wondering about a pillow for the linen chair. Wondering if the teal and tan in the above photo could work? And whether to do 20X20 or 13X20.
Joan McLemore Ah! The thread had lots going on and I missed that. I like those colors in the geometric print. It reminds me a bit of one of my surface designs at Spoonflower (The one I created has a stripe mixed with a geometric and my blue is a little lighter). I think I like the 20 x 20 pillow size, as far as the look of a pillow anyway. The lumbar shape may offer more comfort though.

The design in the front of the three swatches is the one that your sample brought to my mind.
