What is the best ceiling to use in a walk-in shower /bathroom ?
This is a basement location 7' x 10' with a linear drain down the center with 7' ceiling.

PYRAMID DESIGN GROUP Are you asking which would be the best choice of a ceiling regarding moisture? If so the first issue is proper ventalation--you need a good quality exhaust fan--panasonic are the best. Then sheetrock with blue board and use a good quality eggshell or semi gloss paint. Ot you could use ceramic tile on the ceiling.

Ironwood Builders Pyramid, don't know your location but our inspectors here in CA do not allow any blue, green or purple board on a ceiling...ever....and haven't for at least 10 years. Since we are all on some form of the IRC, my hunch is it isn't just CA. So, markuslikeus, you can just use regular 1/2" drywall and finish...but do follow Pyramid's advice about a vent fan.

Mark thanks for your input. I will be using a Panasonic fan . Moisture is my concern as I will also use a ceiling mount rain shower at only 7'. I was thinking of cement board on walls and ceiling , but I would like to keep it low maintenace as well. If i go with tile top to bottom that is a lot of grout to reseal.

Ironwood Builders Mark, Just don't put the cement board on the ceiling! The reason the inspectors won't allow green board and the others is because the stuff falls down! I hear you about cleaning grout...I use gray grout and seal it to keep maintenance low. Resealing is maybe twenty minutes in a full size floor to ceiling shower...cheaper than cleaning!

Mark Good info, I have other options such as a one piece acrlylc sheet or UPVC ceiling cladding. Any thoughts?

shelby1175 as long as you have good ventilation as in a fan, then blue board is fine.
