mymich my floors are in between walnut and ebony. We mixed the two stains. They do show dirt and scratches but are so pretty I dont mind.

Kelly Have you considered a wood look tile? You can get any color or tone. They will not scrtch and no worries over sand and water.

A finish with less shine will help the dirt issue if you like a darker wood. I like dark woods too and we often suggest this option to our customers who desire a rich look. ASVInteriors I stayed in a house in South Carolina with dark wood floors. I think the issues are the same whether you have tile or wood: sand. Frankly I loved the dark wood, and its wear and tear was part of the patina of age.
