Help this dated split foyer
I really need to update the outside of my house. It is a split foyer, but we have done nothing to the outside since moving in 12 years ago. We can't afford the siding right now which would do a lot. I want to make an over hang that is arts in craft style and get new shutters. Looking for an inexpensive way to update. Would love any suggestions provided.

claudiann I would take the shutters and storm door off. I would paint the garage door to blend in with the wood. I would look into building a deck with rails . It looks like it could be a little wider than what you now have. Do you think the large tree is causing the steps and sidewalk to move because that is what it looks like. I would worry about the foundation and see if the insurance co. Might pay to take it down. I think you need landscaping to hide the service box and the clean out white thing if that is what it is. Paint the front door a pretty color maybe coral. Add a new walk. If you can't afford concrete the use large stepping stones. Have some coming to the street and some to the driveway. Maybe the deck person could add a overhang over the door.

rinqreation I really like those colors. Repair the shutters. Repair rot and repaint all of it (fresh coat). A simple wooden entry on poles would look great (painted in a tan and white like the windows), and maybe a larger step and cobblestone pavers.

Dorene Milewski Thanks for the ideas. Been thinking about some of the things Claudiann mentioned; however, never thought about the tree being the cause of the steps moving and possibly affecting the dry well (white thing). When you say deck do mean the stoop? I actually would like to widen it on either end about 6 inches. I also never thought of just repairing the shutters and painting them. I thought perhaps ordering new ones. Really appreciate the ideas.
