Which direction should I install new kitchen wood-plank-look flooring?
I am COMPLETELY remodeling my kitchen, which is L-shaped. I am going to have wood-look planking installed in the kitchen and continue it into my narrow bathroom, which is just past the short part of the L. If I install the planks going vertically along the long part of the L, then along the short part of the L (which extends into my bathroom), the flooring will be going horizontally, which doesn't, visually, seem right. - But if I install the flooring going vertically along the short part of the L and into the bathroom (which, for that part of the remodel, seems visually correct), then the flooring would run horizontal for the long part of the L, and that doesn't seem right. -- ?????

eztia I wonder if it would look okay and be possible to have the floorboards mitered in the corner of the L-shaped room - cut at a 45 degree angle? There is a structural rule for laying a wood floor. Another Houzzer will know.

Stamps Design Services You could consider running the flooring on the diagonal...

creeser Another option would be to install the flooring on the diagonal. [houzz=

libradesigneye The rule is that the flooring should be laid perpendicular to the source of natural light. Wherever your window is, that is the rule.

feeny What exactly do you mean by "wood plank-look" flooring? Actual wood flooring has to be installed perpendicular to the floor joists.

peggymb The flooring is Allure Plank Flooring, so it is not actual wood but just looks like wood planks.

Hmm-mm-mm. On the diagonal. That is an interesting thought.
