Why are accent tables so hard to pick!
Bought these accent tables (of course no return policy) got them home and I'm not crazy about them. Why do I not like them? What do you all think? Should I have gone with a round table? My other dilemma is I hate seeing lamp cords! How do you hide lamp cords?

decoenthusiaste They might work better sitting side-by-side (but not touching)as a high coffee/tea table in front of the sofas. They remind me of TV trays and it you put anything on top it covers the glass part. The old fashioned brown lamp cords can be taped inside legs for camo. Change out white cords or paint them to match the wood. Sometimes a paintable cord chase works if it is near a wall or baseboard.

tayloch I like the style of your room. You have good taste. Really like the orange dish. The table matches too closely with the couch, a glass table may have been better. However as you can't return look for something in a brighter colour to put on top of the table. A tablemat in turquoise could work.

normalinda1 Beautiful room so far. I think the accent tables are wrong for the furniture though. You have too much brown already. I actually have the exact color couch and recently ordered this side table. http://wrights-furniture.com/products/Flexsteel/flex/662907.html
I think it would look great in your room as well. I'm working with an interior designer here in North Carolina and she found it so I had an expert help me. We found it at FurntitureLand and it was $197.

Olivia The table beautifully matches the style of the room. Instead of focusing on the table which is a background piece, pay attention to what goes on the table. A lamp--possibly picking up the turquoise from one of those beautiful plates--might be just the ticket. Your eye would go to the lamp and not the table.

aclark900 decoenthusiaste: you are so right! they remind me of TV trays. I just could not put my finger on it!! Normalinda1: I love love that table!!!! Im always so nervous buying online, but I'm thinking I'm going to have to. Tulsa, Oklahoma doesn't offer much in contemporary furniture/home design.

Ann I like the first idea of using them side by side as a coffee table. I also think you might be right about round as end tables. Maybe even metal base with cream colored stone tops???? That dark wood looks a little heavy with the heavy dark furniture. I love your room accents!

normalinda1 I never like buying online either but I was lucky enough to see this table in person and can vouch for it. If you'd like, I can take a pic of what it looks like with my sofa when it comes in. I bought it a few weeks ago and it should be delivered in another week or so. Here's the link to the table at FurnitureLand South. http://www.furniturelandsouth.com/Flexsteel-Seville-Chair-Side-Table-DZ9615.aspx I think it's the best price around but you might be able to get someone else to match it. Also, a high-end furniture store in your area might be able to order it for you if you want to go that route.

nononanna Agree with those who think they could work as a coffee table, and think you could use some or another material in the tables. The room may be a little heavy in brown and wood, but it looks good in general.

The tables are cute on their own, so maybe there's another spot in the house?

normalinda1 Also, this floor lamp might look nice in there. http://www.potterybarn.com/products/chelsea-sectional-lamp-base/

carolins Hi, I just came across a great tip in another thread about cordless lamps, available from
Modern Lantern and Neoz
http://www.modernlantern.com/
http://www.neoz.com.au/en/cordless-lamp-range

That will solve the problem of the visible cords. I do like the end tables by the way.

Decor Innovation Designs I'm sorry but these tables are not working for your space, The room is very heavy feeling with all the dark colours going on. I would recommend that you look for some in a metal finish with glass tops, this will help to keep the room feeling light and airy, not to mention it will feel larger then it is. You can also look into mirrored end tables, it truly depends on look you want to achieve. If your budget wont allow you to replace them I would consider having a piece of mirror cute with beveled edges to cover the top it will brake up the brown colour and add an elegance and brightness to the room.

nononanna This is priceless information.

Decor Innovation Designs An electrician can probably install surface-mount receptacles in the floor fairly easily, especially if your home has a basement. Arrange the furniture the way you want it, and then hire the professional to put outlets in appropriate locations, such as by the edge of a sofa or underneath an end table. This option will even work in carpeted interiors. Just ask the electrician to cut small buttonholes in the carpet for the lamp cords to go through.

Or you can go with the idea that "odupless" has provide you, this is a home staging trick to hide wires.

prt13 As you probably aren’t going to go out and buy the glass topped metallic legged tables I’m going to suggest a little DYI
It appears that the table centres are glass which could be painted underneath: you can turn them into mirrors with Krylon looking glass spray
http://www.krylon.com/products/looking_glass_mirror_like_paint
or use a copper or gold metallic
http://www.krylon.com/products/premium_metallic/
[There are online tutorials for “faux mercury glass” if that appeals to you]
I really love the copper & red-orange plate, there is a bright red-orange that might compliment it
http://www.krylon.com/products/fluorescent_paint/
I’m sure I have seen 24” square ceramic tiles which I’m guessing would cover the tops: If the centers are inset this is easy, trickier if they protrude. Glue anti-slip rubber (for drawers) to the bottom and gloss paint the edges ~ providing you can find a colour and finish which appeals to you and brightens the room

You can tape colour swatches to the tables to see if you like the colour/effect

The floor lamps suggested are beautiful ~

cb0021 Your room seems very linear. I would suggest using round end tables to break up the lines.
