eztia Greetings Margaret Lee. Houzz has more than one million photos for inspiration. To find under stair shelving, you can go to the Ideabooks section of Houzz and enter "under stair shelving" in the search box.
You can also go to the Houzz PHOTOS section. Enter "under stairs shelving" in the search box. You can save your favorite photos into your very own Ideabook. If you see a photo that is not quite it, but might work, add it right then. It is extremely difficult to find a particular photo again, as the order of the photos changes several times a day as new photos are added. It is easy to delete photos from your Ideabook.
I have attached two photos of under stair storage - in this case, drawers. I am sorry they do not enlarge on this post.
Margaret Lee Thanks Eztia. I live in Ireland and am interiors mad! I have a small house not much money and am trying to maximize space. I want to make my small understairs into a pantry for storing plates and dry foods glasswear etc. I can see it in my mind, sort of french vintage open shelving . So thank you for your interest
Maggie
feeny I have an ideabook where I collect ideas for innovative uses of space, with lots of pictures of shelving and other creative under-stair ideas. Here are a few favorites:
feeny Thanks, onthefence! As you can see, I have a bit of a preoccupation with bookshelves and staircases, and I love using small spaces in unexpected, well-designed ways.
feeny I totally covet that reading nook window seat under the stairs. And I once rented a vacation house that had a curved bookshelf under a curved staircase much like the other photo, with a nice club chair to sit and read in. I wanted to stay forever. Our own staircase is pretty boring, but having grown up in a CA ranch house, I find having any staircase at all kind of cool.
feeny P.S. If you want to see some really cool staircases, onthefence, look in my ideabook titled "Striking Walls, Textures and Lines". Among other things, I've collected some of my favorite Houzz staircase photos. But without storage.
onthefence Some of those staircases I adore! The circular ones are neat - but have you ever drug a fully packed large suitcase up one of them?
I do love the interesting lines though. What you said is pretty funny - I DO live in a CA ranch house. Just the thought of hidden cubbies or wonderful havens like that reading nook make me swoon.
feeny Or imagine carrying up the new mattress we just bought?
I think I spent the first 15 years of my life in CA without climbing a single staircase, onthefence. Flat ranch house; schools with pod shaped classrooms for earthquake safety. Staircases were like a fantasy world. Now we have an old house with three stories plus a basement. When I become elderly I'm going to wish I had that ranch house again!
onthefence It seems that 2 story houses are becoming much more the norm here. At least in the metro areas. People are wanting bigger houses and builders can get more house on less land.
Mattresses, box springs and dressers have to be the WORST things to get up stairs ;-)
I love the look of staircases and love the view a 2nd story provides. I'll tell ya though - we're not elderly (YET!) but I love not carrying laundry and other items up and down stairs ;-)
feeny I know! Our laundry is in our basement, so it is two flights up to the bedroom. We have a laundry chute, so it's no trouble getting the dirty laundry down. But bringing it up again is a workout!
Apologies to Margaret Lee for hijacking your thread to have a little staircase conversation with onthefence. But at least it is partially on topic!
Margaret Lee I enjoy reading comments you post so no apology needed!! I get a lot of inspiration from you guys and a bad case of the green eyed monster! sorry!
