Barbara Griffith Designs First your really need drapery on the window..hung high and off the sides..long panels. Second the 2 white box lights are too "white". They just don't work. Also remove the white cloth on the buffet. Next too many chairs crammed into the table. Place 2 chairs somewhere else. The step shelves are too cluttered..less items & larger pieces. The bare wall needs a large grouping of framed the same large items. Maybe photos with large mats and large frames. Cover a large area with them hung close together. For centerpieces, on the table something large and low..maybe a large colorful bowl. On the buffet maybe 3 objects together.

Barbara Griffith Designs Sorry, remove 2 more chairs so there are only 2 on each side and 1 on each end.

Kathleen Coleman I think I would remove the fake tree and the plumeskeeping it simple. Perhaps some more modern assesories.

Kelly I love the red! If you like the pops of white, bring in some window treatments to tie that into the decor. I can't see your light over the table, but maybe a drum chandelier.

tennisanyone Remove the bookshelf and the tree and take two chairs from the table and put them t next to the buffet, Remove the tall centerpiece.

hyweld Agreed the bookshelf and trees don't help make it more formal if you want. Red has been in dining rooms for quite awhile now, less clutter, less fake flowers and knick knacks and more clean, smart lines with a 'finished' and 'complete' look is what I think you need.

Tina Fynbo Another question I removed the white lamps and white runner what can I put on the buffet table since it long thnaks so much

decoenthusiaste First, remove everything from the room except the buffet, table and six chairs. Is there room to navigate between the buffet and table if you turn the table the other direction? If not, would the buffet go on the wall opposite the window and make room for the table to turn? I do think the table must turn. Agree with Kelly about a new chandy above the table. Select three of your photos, all in different frames and different sizes, and group them on the window sill. Stop at three. When you re-hang your picture, make sure it is closer to the buffet than it is to the ceiling - it must visually attach to the furniture it is with. Try leaving 4-5" between the buffet and frame. Put the two books and green apple looking piece from the second shelf of your bookcase on one end of the buffet. On the other end, put the cornucopia of green flowers but add in the small flowers on the top shelf of your bookcase into the arrangement. Then use Barbara G's idea for a large bowl on the table. Add floor to ceiling drapery panels hung high and wide so they just cover the window frame. That's it - simple, clean and inviting.

Tina Fynbo So I do not know if I should keep the buffet table this way dose it look okay? or should I relocate something Just trying to get my dinning room done

decoenthusiaste You're progressing! I can see you're a bit OCD about ordiliness - my mom was too. Angle the books and photos. Everything will look more inviting if relaxed, angled and unmatched. Your casual style furniture calls for a looser look - squared up items make a very formal presentation, and that is not the vibe from your buffet and dining set.
What did you think about turning the table lengthwise? Read my earlier post again.

Tina Fynbo Actually I did turn the table and I love it the buffet and picture are now on the other side of the wall my husband keep saying the same thing move the table lengthwise it is so much better thank-you so much and I will post pictures when done.

decoenthusiaste Glad to hear that worked for you - anxious to see the results.

Tina Fynbo So I got some pictures on how I would like the buffet table I got three which do you like best?
Tina Fynbo Also should I put something in the middle of the buffet? not sure just asking

decoenthusiaste I like 3 best because the flowers add some height. Now just slide the items over so they cover a bit of the picture frame - this makes for more interest via layering. Turn the cornucopia slightly toward the middle, but don't add anything else. You might try the three containers of red flowers down the center of the dining table.

Welcome Home designs I agree with picture #3 . I like the idea of the red flowers on the dining room table but would suggest a runner with some red in the fabric - not a solid colour - maybe same fabric as drapes/roman shades? I also agree that you need a chandelier type light fixture. Good effort so far!

Tina Fynbo Thank-you so much for helping me even though I love redoing a room sometimes even I get a little too much stuff I am posting again to let you see what I have done so far I do have two choices of table cloths the curtains are are a light light green with black overlay if I have to change the black to white let me know. So what one dose gose best with the curtains and the green plants.

Tina Fynbo One more picture of the table runner it also can cover the whole table but I like it this way let me know what you think?

Danielian Associates Architecture + Planning A very late comment on this thread but some lovely crown molding would really make the room look elegant and some directional down lights on your art work will help make it more of a focal point. The red color is so rich and lovely.

decoenthusiaste I'm not a fan of runners, but try the plaid one bunched up toward the center of the table - think of a ribbon floating and layering on itself - and add the red flowers on top of it.

Tina Fynbo I just found these curtains on sale and had to get them my question is should I leave the black in back of it or leave it without the black in the background let me know
3 months ago ·
decoenthusiaste Well, unfortunately the curtains are too short. Can you return them? You want to move your rods up to the ceiling or as close as possible and allow room for the curtain heading. Then the drapes must kiss the floor. The stripes appear too formal for your space too, I fear.

bethbevington Minimize! Less is better. How about a large, really large mirror. Don't make it to matchy Love the red!
decoenthusiaste I don't encourage mirrors unless there is a great view or a fab chandy to be reflected. Make sure what you double with a mirror is worth seeing twice.

Welcome Home designs I think you've got too many different patterns going on - your art, your drapes, and your runner - I think a small subtle pattern or solid for your runner and drapes would be better- your painting needs to be the dominate focal point.

libradesigneye Drapes can be adjusted - instead of returning them, since they were on sale, go buy one more panel and get some thick black grograin ribbon - you will only need 3 yards. Cut the fabric to sew on bottom of panels to make your length with a new seam at least 16" above finished floor. Cover seam with black grograin ribbon trim. I don' t think they are too formal, I think the colors are good. Lose the black sheers, use the other grommet curtains back to your master bedroom perhaps.

Most people just set their extra chairs at the four corners of the room - one at each of the two back corners is enough and three down the side will work.
