Need help with tiny kitchen
July 26, 2013 in Design Dilemma
My husband and I just purchased a 1930's bungalow with the understanding that we have to do something about the tiny kitchen. I have posted a picture of the area that feels particularly cramped. We plan to paint walls and cabinets a lighter color (off-white, perhaps?) and we'd like to put in Ikea wood counter tops. The biggest problem I see, though, is the large, black appliances. I would love to get stainless steel or white appliances that fit the space better. The refrigerator is particularly problematic. But our funds are very limited and I'm not sure when we will be able to replace all appliances. We've thought about moving the wall that is behind the refrigerator, but some research must be done to determine where the chimney is behind the wall. Even if we uncover a nice brick chimney that can stay exposed, I'm not sure how much space it will save. Any other thoughts?
