Blue and White
Hi There! I currently live in a 1920s cottage in Atlanta that I'll describe as "collected."
I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia. I've been writing about design online for quite a few years over at Hatch: The Design Public Blog.

It's Labor Day! It's officially the last day I can wear my favorite white jeans, which I'm wearing with a nautical navy and white striped sweater. I've had some version of this outfit since I was a child and I never tire of it.
Perhaps that's why I love blue and white interiors so much. They are always refreshingly crisp, and remind me of the coast. The next time you need to freshen up a room, consider using blue and white. Without further ado, here are some favorites.

This Williamsburg blue adds a calm sophistication to a not-too-formal dining room.

This living room looks like it's comfortable, and the blue and white palette gives it a crispness.

Another living room gets summery sophistication from blue and white.

Wide horizontal stripes give this traditional room a bit of a modern twist.

Blue and white plates make great accessories - why hide them in a stack in the cabinet when you can hang them on the wall...

...or show them off on some shelves.

Who knew royal blue could look so sleek?

Here the robin's egg blue gives the kitchen an eclectic jolt, while white keeps it toned down just the right amount.

I'm a sucker for a blue and white palette in a coastal cottage.

Great collection -- so crisp! Although, I say go ahead and wear white whenever you want -- rules, shmules.

Niche, I wore white pants today. MOstly because I've had so much pie and ice cream on my late August trips to New England that none of my other pants fit!

Becky, I had to laugh when I read your comments about wearing white after Labor Day! Think you'll get a kick out of our Labor Day blog post titled Labor Day Rules. Here's the link http://www.casartcoverings.com/casartblog/archives/4262. Be sure to read to the end!
P.S. Today I'm wearing black flats, gray and white striped pants and a black short sleeved top so I don't swelter in this 90 plus New Orleans heat, but it's NOT totally white!

Storklady, my mom did the shades, I'll ask her if she remembers and get back to you here. When the lights are on inside at night, you can totally see through them, which unfortunately, I didn't realize for awhile! They let the light through but keep the furniture from fading.
casart, I remember this hilarious book that was out when I was in college. It was called "Princess Margaret will never become a Kappa Kappa Gamma Because" The reason involved white shoes after Labor Day ;)

Ahhhh I just love each and every one of these photos! And I've translated my love of such to our bedroom- our wall colors are Benjamin Moore Pale Smoke (similar to first photo with more gray accents) accented with white and royal blue. The blue scheme is just beautiful! Great collection of pictures!!

Hi Becky,
Do you know the brand of paint used in the first photo? I was thinking of doing a soothing grey in my guest bedroom, but I love love love that color. I searched around and found Behr's Williamsburg blue. Thanks for showcasing the beautiful color (as well as that ceiling!)

Sorry, I don't know, but I would advise anyone looking at painting at doing a LARGE sample on the wall to test it. So worth it - I was going for a very light blue once and I wound up with a living room that looked like a Tiffany box!
