I love to hear tales of faraway places from those who are passionate about travel. Conversations like these make great table discussions and give everyone a chance to share their experiences. Using your home to reflect your penchant for adventure transports your guests to a distant land—without ever having to leave your front door. This ideabook provides you with a hypothetical peek into the homes of the modern traveler and gives suggestions on getting this look in your home.
Hang hand-loomed tapestries and rugs as beautiful wall art. This protects your masterpiece from the wear and tear it would ordinarily receive on the floor.

Nature provides some of the best travel mementos available. This trio of wooden branches could possibly be a reminder of a romantic beachside proposal.

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. These pocket doors made of fine hardwood are very similar to those seen in many Asian homes and temples. Don't be afraid to try a new look in your home.

Love this subject for an ideabook! I always have kicked myself for not buying little things when traveling because I didn't want to lug them around. Those days are over! Now I won't let my husband talk me out of the little things. I suggest going for items like linens and textiles, things that can be easily packed. I learned a great lesson from someone...can't recall who...but they suggested packing flat fedex tubes in your suitcase for the maps, artwork and posters - you just form the boxes and roll up the paper, and voila, it's safe to take in a car or on a plane.

I've been fortunate to travel extensively. My husband used to always say, "If you see something you like, get it because the chances are it will be gone the next time you are there, or you won't be able to return again." During several trips to Africa we purchased spears, leather and horsetail fly swatters, animal imaged iron head scratchers, a row of carved elephants, an antelope mask and even a shield made from cow hide. They all reside quite companionably and, I think, attractively on a glass enclosed porch. When I look at them, they recall wonderful memories of those long ago trips.

We have also been blessed with the opportunity to travel frequently. I have been collecting sand for many years and have my collection on my mantel in various little glass bottles with handwritten tags attached identifying which beach they're from. Besides appreciating the amazing array of colors and textures displayed in each container, we are constantly reminded of special moments we experienced in far off destinations.
