Green and White...Always Fresh, Never Outdated
Recently, while reading an article about colors being used in interior design, I read that green is currently the most popular color in decorating. I'm not sure if everyone would agree with that statement, but there sure are a lot of amazing spaces here at Houzz to back up that claim!
Green has long been considered a calming and refreshing color. That’s why guests who are waiting to appear on a television show, are usually seated in the “green room.” It just so happens that green is my very favorite color. When I’m drooling over beautiful spaces at Houzz, the green rooms tend to really catch my eye...especially if the green is paired with white.
A few tidbits about the history of the color green: Brides in the Middle Ages wore green to symbolize fertility. Dark green is considered a masculine, conservative color carrying with it the implication of wealth. An old superstition kept seamstresses from using green thread on the eve of a fashion show for fear it would bring bad luck. Green is thought to have great healing power; hospitals often use green because it relaxes patients.
You see and hear a lot about the use of the colors blue and white together, and I do love that color combination. But, in my humble opinion, the color palate of green and white deserves just as much attention. I found over 30 beautiful green and white spaces to show you, but I forced myself to pare it down to a delightful 15.

| This has to be one of the most beautiful kitchens posted here at Houzz. I love the symmetry and totally love the green and white color scheme. Since green is said to have great healing power, what a perfect color for a room designed to nourish the body. Private Comment

Wallpaper has been making a come back in recent years. Though red has always been a popular color for dining rooms, this green would be so relaxing for an evening of dining and entertaining.

I've been trying to decide...is this the same beautiful paper as seen in the above dining room? What do you think? Isn't it stunning paired with all this gorgeous white trim and woodwork?

One more dining space...only this time we find our green and white in the window treatments. Have I made you fall in love with green and white, yet?

If you love the look of toile as much as I do, consider a bedroom wrapped in the softness of green and white.

Green and white has a playful side, too, making it the perfect color for a child's bedroom.

Wait until you see all the different looks you can accomplish with green and white in the bathroom! Consider a subtle look with a soft olive green and white wallpaper. I love how the lamp shade pulls the green out of the paper.

Feeling bold? Consider a kelly green contrasted with bright white. Now if this home were in Augusta, Georgia, this color green would be called "The Masters" green. :-)

Feeling really daring and playful? Think lime or chartreuse! Green comes in lots of flavors and they all look great combined with white.

Green makes a beautiful statement when used on the exterior of a home. White trim is the perfect accent.

If you aren't in the mood to paint, wallpaper, re-tile or buy new drapes to get your green and white fix, think on a smaller scale. I've always coveted...uhh, I mean admired Cindy's beautiful tiered server. It's especially lovely filled with summer shades of green and white.

Lately I've fallen in love with the cream/sage combination... so soft and healing, especially in bedrooms or bathrooms.

Hi Susan!
I totally agree with you, the combination of white and green is soothing, and refreshing. I chose it for our family room and dining area, because the room is literally filled with windows. By keeping it simply white and green, it feels as if we are in the middle of the garden, all year round.
For the same reason, I have chosen the white and green color scheme for the large loft I am designing right now... I can't wait to have it finished!

I especially love the Elizabeth Dinkel image with the pineapple wallpaper and the sweet little bamboo frame. Very pretty.

I love green and it's been scattered all over my house for years. My current fave is apple and citrus greens. How about that toile wallpaper though? I mean what a task putting that up - even on the ceiling no less! Still, I feel a little worse for the person who eventually will have to take it down.

Chartreuse is my favorite green...I love green and white especially when it is paired with black. Just love green in the house because it brings in the outdoors inside and I have to have live, green plants in my house no matter how big the space :D Just love the photo here of the bathrub and lime green walls...what a way to wake up in the morning. Great ideabook Susan :D

Beautiful collection. I especially love the soft apple greens. I once painted in a Georgetown brownstone home, where every room was a different color, by the clients' choice. It had a cream salon, deep pink dining, aqua master, orange library, and a lemon bedroom. I wondered, HOW is the designer going to pull all these colors together? She papered the stair hall in a grass green stripe, and somehow it worked!
I don't think the two wall papers are the same, as the second one has an aqua band above the chair rail, and in the first the green field extends below the chair rail level.

As always, Susan, you find the best pictures! Green is my favorite color too, although blue is a close second (ocean colors!). I'm with them, I'd love to see the 'other' 15. Can't get over that kitchen. Reminds me of some white dishes I saw w/ grass blades on them (Paula Deen's maybe?). Funny how everything always takes me back to dishes! ;O)

In photo #12 why on earth did you choose to rename kelly green something so offensive ("The Master's Green")? Because Augusta still rocks slavery? And with a smiley face? What is funny about that?
Haven't you heard that slavery and oppressive language have gone out of style? Or perhaps you can tell me, what exactly would be the appropriate shade of "The Slave's Green"?
Shame on you. This is not what I come to this website for.

Hi Freshexpress, Thanks for your question. JMBNV is right! I was referring to the shade of green that is so strongly associated with "The Masters" golf tournament. Winners receive a kelly green jacket that strongly resembles the pretty green of the bathroom walls in that pic. The tournament is called "The Masters" because the golfers who play there are always the very best in the field of golf...hence the "masters." :-) Thanks!

Thanks LNMBV and tardevil for clueing me in about the actual meaning of susanbetweennapsontheporch's reference. I don't follow sports at all and didn't know about the tournament (and it's colors) thus did not catch your reference.
Being a black person from the south means that hearing the word "master" (and being used in reference to GA) means that yes, unfortunately that is something my brain will instantly think about and bristle at.
I am relieved to learn that I misunderstood you in a major way. Apologies for what may have been a harsh response, and appreciations for the explanation!
