Jamie Joyal DIY

All of my DIYs are cheap and easy, my favorite words! Here are a couple of my faves:

Cass Collins I made these pendant lights for my kitchen counter from parts I obtained from Grand Brass Lighting Parts, Schoolhouse Electric (shades), and Lowe's (pendant track connectors). I think they turned out better than any I found online and were MUCH less expensive. I had to amp up (pun intended) my electrical DIY skills a bit but it was worth it.

Denise Vilim Lily, is ther a time limit on submissions? I have several projects I would like to submit photos of, but with my son's b-day this weekend and mine 12 days later, we have so much going on and it will be at least a week or so before I can post anything. I have also been planning on starting up my own design blog, including DIY how-tos, however that most likely will not be happening for another month or two.

Cass Collins I also re-tiled my bathroom floor and wall and counter. I used this pebble tile from Strata-Stone on the wall and I really like the way it turned out. The whole bathroom took a lot longer than I expected but I did all the tile labor myself. Word to the wise- porcelain tile and stone eat up tile blades. Be prepared!

Casa Greer I love coming across good DIY projects! Here are some of mine:

DIY no sew office curtains.
A chair makeover including new upholstery and more DIY no sew curtains as well as an Ikea nightstand hack.
I also recently added stripes to our laundry room!

Lily Gahagan Wow, these are all great! Thanks everyone for sharing.

@aprilaries, we'd need it by next Friday for this ideabook, but not to worry! We'll have plenty more DIY ideabooks in the future, so feel free to add them to your profile whenever you get the chance. If you include a link to instructions on your future blog, we'll make sure to link to it.

Sabrina Newell I recently made two fabric covered cork boards from some fabulous geometric fabric. I finished them with gold nail heads. This was a super easy diy and they turned out great. You can see more at http://loulousucre.blogspot.com/2011/03/fabric-cork-boards.html

Honey Dew Property Maintenance Hi,
I build the fireplace surround and mantle for a condo I flipped.
The table and benches I made from reclaimed Fir floor joists from a school that was being torn down.
And the bike hanging is actually regular old wall shelving brackets.

Barbara Stock I made this mosaic tile vanity countertop with broken china and tiles mixed with glass mosaics. Since I had no experience with tile setting, I had the Country Floors borders set professionally, then filled in the rest. I would suggest laying out your pattern, or at least drawing it out, before you begin, so you have an end in mind. I used white 6 x 6 on the diagonal in the shower, but installed a broken tile mosaic border all the way around at shoulder height.

Sherri Mathers This is one of my first DIY projects that I did when I started my blog last year. I had been saving shells forever. Finding them on beach, garage sales, thrift shops, even taking shell placemates apart. It was a long project but I love the final look...I hope you enjoy.

ARB Improvements This was a small remodel in a 200 square foot cabin located on a sustainable farm in Kula HI. The Cabin was almost a tear down but the owner wanted to keep the aged feel of it. We reused and salvaged a large amount of the materials. Its now used to serve coffee to visitors.

Annie Wilson I made a patchwork slipcover for my old ottoman using design fabric samples from my work (at Jonathan Adler). I know it's bright, but it brings a much-needed punch to my room which is almost all browns... I really liked the grommets and decided to keep them for some unexpected texture.

schoolhousekat Here are a couple of my recent favorites - a glass tile backsplash and a rescued beadboard island back with vintage wall paper on it, topped by a zinc counter and a black walnut burl bar (all by us). Lots more at http://rrschoolhouse.wordpress.com.

stylechik My husband and I have been DIY'ers for about 7 years. Shown here is a bar stool he built and painted red. We also built this wood leaning mirror stained in an American Walnut with hooks to drape your purse or clothes. My husband and I built and stained this breakfast bench and table and I designed the dining area where this sat. Last, my husband created this wall art to fill the space of our high ceilings and stained to complement the colors in our living room.

mchan Every western room needs a homemade antler lamp on a nail-studded mantel. The faux leather background was created using three colors of craft paint and a rag.

Kate I love this! My husband and I bought our house in '09 and we've re-done several rooms so far. But our favorite is our dining room. We started with a terrible paint job and a wall of wall paper. The chair rail was our best decision yet! We have a run under it now and a console table on the left wall...but this pic shows the rail a bit better.

mchan My in-laws old, rusty bed was transformed into a fireplace screen with the help of a couple of blocks of wood and a few bolts. The fireplace flooring was painstakingly glued rock by rock onto a piece of plywood so the look can be changed out easily. A coat of clear gloss made the rocks look like the river had just flowed over them.

Karen Viscito Interiors Our kitchen renovation was by far the most rewarding DIY project we have ever tackled. It is hard to believe we did it ourselves (except for the granite installation). Here are before and after photos. Notice in the "after" photo of the eating area, the pony walls are gone, we carried the cork floor throughout the kitchen and the family room area and made the space truly one big room where the entire family can gather.

Karen Viscito Interiors Me again, I wanted to show the wall where we had one of those bifold door pantry cabinets, we eliminated it and a desk. We put a refrigerator there flanked by two 18" cabinets with roll out shelves. Such an improvement.

grams05 How important is it to add lights inside kitchen cabinets that have glass fronts? If the shelves are wooden, do you have to change to glass shelves in order for the light to filter down? Are the lights for these cabinets pricey?

Zahidee Mercedes Love the headboard! Love DIY projects! My latest is a mirror border wrapped in an aged french newspaper print. I used a home made mod podge solution to decoupage it to the border. Link is citicasita.blogspot.com.

Your Favorite Room By Cathy Zaeske DIY!
I converted an old garage sale kitchen block to a bright and happy vanity for my basement powder room.

I also refinished my old 70's childhood dresser into a shabby chic piece for my guest room with some scrapbook paper, decoupage, paint, fun knobs and a whole lotta love.

If anybody wants to see more pics, send me an email at cathyzaeske@yourfavoriteroom.com

Your Favorite Room By Cathy Zaeske DIY...
Created a faux window to cover my fuse boxes and provide style and symmetry to my long basement wall. The window effect is especially realistic at night with the light reflecting on the mirror/glass - can't tell the difference!

Jan Kane We are always working on projects. Made a coffee table, added reclaimed wood on master wall. No room for a headboard so thought this would be a nice option. Ikea lack shelf built in to the wall. My gas fireplace we be installed between them.
