Blu Dot Stilt Floor Lamp - $399.00 [ Link ]
The Blu Dot Stilt floor lamp has a lighthearted design and a fun feel. It could be dressed up or dressed down. My favorite thing about this lamp is that the base is airy and leggy, making it perfect for small spaces.

Eternity Floor Lamp - $1,125.00 [ Link ]
This Eternity floor lamp has crisp geometric lines that keep it from fading into the background. I think the rectangular shade is beautiful, and it is certainly unique. The antiqued gold finish would work with both gold and silver tones in your room.

Kenroy Home Coventry Floor Lamp, Gloss White - $180.00 [ Link ]
I am not sure what is better about this floor lamp: the looks or the price. This piece catches my eye with a glamorous, glossy white base and a sophisticated chocolate brown shade. It looks pricey, but it isn't.

House of Troy Coach Pharmacy Floor Lamp, Antique Brass - $192.91 [ Link ]
This Coach Pharmacy floor lamp in antique brass has the look of a much more expensive piece with its classic lines. I love using pharmacy lamps in all kinds of decor, but they are particularly wonderful in studies or above a favorite reading chair. For me, their adjustable height is a huge selling feature.

Barbara Cosgrove Swell Floor Lamp With Table Top - $905.00 [ Link ]
I love the Swell floor lamp by Barbara Cosgrove. It is a throwback to the fun table lamps of the '70s, but the Swell is much more chic. This lamp is particularly practical for small spaces like studio apartments.

Arteriors Perry Steel Column Floor Lamp - $1,056.00 [ Link ]
I love the attention to fine detail that can be found on the base of this floor lamp. This understated piece is elegant and simple but certainly not plain. I also love when lamps feature dual light bulbs, as this one does.

Sonneman Orbiter Floor Lamp - $220.00 [ Link ]
I think that the fresh design of this floor lamp is adorable and practical. I love that this piece would offer very focused light for reading. Its modern edge is airy and subtle, which makes it suitable for nearly any decor.

Arteriors Ellington Gray Weathered Wood Floor Lamp - $1,236.00 [ Link ]
Sometimes a space needs a truly substantial piece. I would recommend this Ellington floor lamp to a client who has a room with soaring ceilings and an open floor plan.

Jeffrey Floor Lamp - $299.00 [ Link ]
This slim-profile floor lamp is simply fantastic. I would love to use a pair of them in my dining room to flank my two small sofas. The slender base will slide right under furniture, giving it a space-saving design.

Arteriors Lunar Silver Floor Lamp - $720.00 [ Link ]
The design of this Lunar floor lamp reminds me of a palm tree. I love the simple yet interesting base on this beautiful floor lamp, and I would use it in pairs to flank a sofa.

Waldo Polished Nickel Floor Lamp - $1,200.00 [ Link ]
This Waldo floor lamp is not your typical floor lamp. Simply put, it is huge — and yet the shape is still so lovely. I would recommend this floor lamp to a client who is not shy about bling. It would be perfect in a large space that needs to be balanced.

Murray Feiss Tavaris One Light Swing Arm Floor Lamp, Antique Silver Leaf - $299.00 [ Link ]

Lucy Collection Floor Lamp - $400.00 [ Link ]
The Lucy floor lamp by Robert Abbey is stately. I would love to see this in a gentleman's room or in a library. The shape is classic, and it has a presence. This lamp does not fade into the background.

Fun 1 Floor Lamp - $1,650.00 [ Link ]
This lamp is both fun and glamorous. And it is certainly not a wallflower. If you are tired of run-of-the-mill lamps, this floor lamp designed by Verner Panton would add some life to your space.

Dimond Lighting Trump Home Soho Floor Lamp, Gloss Black - $638.00 [ Link ]
This black Soho floor lamp has the "wow" factor. It is glam and gutsy all at once. This lamp would be great in a home that needs a bold stroke of design. I would love to see this floor lamp in an office to keep things fun.

I think that slim floor lamps are great because they add light without taking up much space or adding visual clutter.

I love the Twin Beacons lamp because it has the versatility of two light sources and the flexibility of being adjustable with a swing arm. This lamp could meet a lot of lighting needs.

olldbobbi Floor lamps that have a good balance between shade and shaft look the best to me, like the first example. Otherwise they look top heavy and a bit tipsy.

Fieldstone Hill Design @olldbob You are so right - tipsy is the worst! As for me, I look for a balance between the bottom base and the top. I don't mind the shade being a wee bit larger, as long as the overall balance is pleasing to the eye.

Diamondflame Yes about the 'tipsy' look but only if they are used as standalone pieces. Most of the time these lamps are positioned behind or next to sofas or coffee tables. You seldom see their bases.

Jules The latest addition to my family room, tripod floor lamps from Big Lots, for a mere $100!

appytrails I've been looking for months for a stylish floor lamp that is also a good reading lamp, without success. Most of the floor lamps have diffuse lighting and are not good for reading. Those that have good reading light are pharmacy or industrial looking.
Currently, I bought a desk lamp with a gooseneck that i can read by, but is not what I wanted.
If anyone can point me towards something that would work for me, I'd appreciate it.

kitter Floor lamps from Ott Lights are great for reading & some are decorative (no connection, just a satisfied customer).

sclawson Not sure what could possible merit spending more than $500 for a floor lamp, let alone $1000+. My budget is closer to under $200, and my guess is that's the case for most houzzers. How about an article that helps us maximize style within real-life ranges?

Fieldstone Hill Design @sclawson You might enjoy the Kenroy, the House of Troy, the Sonneman, or the Jeffrey featured here in this article as affordable solutions. Also, I encourage you to use tools like Houzz to find inspiration - in addition to shopping solutions. Once you find a style you like, determination + the internet can lead to amazing deals and high style. Best of luck!

Pink Fortitude, LLC @sclawson - I went to the end of the internet to find the Murray Feiss lamp I wanted at a price I wanted to pay. And then matched it with a thrift store find with the exact same lines and shape. I'm sure it's a design no-no for some Houzzers, but it works and was affordable!

Fieldstone Hill Design @hjracer , what a fantastic score! I love your story. I dare say anyone who would call that kind of ingenuity a design "no-no" is a bit too big for their britches. As an interior designer and haute couture lover, I find limitations {even monetary ones} to be the mother of creativity. If you are determined, you really can add style and top-level beauty to your homes at any budget. Good for you!

toomuchbeige I just bought this floor lamp and am wondering if its too "comtemporary" a look for our cottage type setting. The shade is well.....any thoughts? It really lights up the area and I will be doing something as a collage behind it on that wall.....
olldbobbi toomuchbeige, I like the lamp! If you add a collage behind it, I would remove everything on top of the hutch or it will be too busy.
toomuchbeige Ok Thanks! But...what would you suggest on the walls (s) behind the lamp? It seems to need something....A Large picture or textile?
olldbobbi I think if you center the lamp in the corner you won't need to add anything at all.
