My Houzz: Grand Openings for a Dallas Ranch
Tearing down walls was central to making this midcentury Texas home more open and inviting
Sara Cukerbaum received her B.A. from New York University in 2004. She later returned to study Interior Design at The Harrington Institute of Design in Chicago. After graduating, Sara worked as a designer at several high-end residential firms on a variety of published projects in Chicago, New York, and Dallas. Although this midcentury Dallas ranch home had great bones, the closed-off layout just didn't work for Lori Golman and her husband. Working closely with Mark Domiteaux of Domiteaux + Bagget Architects and general contractor JR Rowan, they opened up the small spaces to make the home feel larger and more entertainment friendly. An interior designer, Golman outfitted the home in a soothing neutral palette, combining modern art and furniture with cherished inherited antiques. A resort-like backyard completes the picture.

Golman loves clean lines and simple backgrounds. "I enjoy tailored looks," she says. "In many ways I design like I dress. I utilize monochromatic color schemes, adding in pops of color to add uniqueness to a space."
She found these blue leather tufted armchairs from Mecox Gardens and paired them with a colorful painting of her favorite flower, a peony.

The home's original layout was divided into small spaces. Golman and the architects opened up these spaces to make the home feel larger and more entertainment friendly. This formal living room, set right behind the dining room, takes advantage of one of these smaller spaces.
