Rough Linen There are good reasons pure linen is particularly good bedding for men, especially if they are active - it doesn't absorb stains and doesn't get dingy, and it impresses women!

bindyz Not a big fan of bamboo blinds...I feel they make a place look a tad old/unkempt unless placed in very specific areas that are full of light and kept super well maintained. Pretty sure if I saw them in a single guy's apartment they wouldn't be maintained the way they need to be to look good. Overall though, the other ideas in this are great!

Mona Ives All nice picks for a single guy - maybe include a paint color suggestion in your next ideabook! I think guys tend to overdo it with the blue paint and plaid bedspreads haha. I like the faded oriental rug, but I think I'd be hard pressed to get my single guy clients to buy one rug, let alone two. The sisal alone's nice or what about a chevron or stripe rug - predictable but good choices, often you can get them into a geometric even. How about a chandelier or a manly pendant- that impresses the ladies way more than bedside lamps. Something vintage and something leather always look nice - think an Eames chair? These are arm and welcoming in a man's place - and by leather I mean old and distressed - not sleek and black.

writerinfact Mona Ives, you obviously know your guys (that would be in general, no offense intended!). I'm finding it very amusing - and enlightening - to help a friend replace his old (cat-scratched) stuff with stuff that suits him better. His previous approach to new stuff was to walk into the discount furniture store and buy (big yuck here) a matching set of something. Bedroom set, living room set, dinette set. But no continuity from one to the other or the next. So, bearing in mind the "colors" he likes and that look good on and around him, we're slowly redoing his spaces. Deco and contemporary mix beautifully, if you're curating a space instead of filling it with a set. Black and white may be ubiquitous, but are so for a reason. Accents are gray, so far, and for a really exciting pop, red (big surprise - think Giants' alternate uniforms ;-) but in small doses, thank you. My biggest challenge was convincing him to take a chance with what he really likes instead of trying to cover up his unique taste by mixing in the earth colors that do not really flatter his physical or psychic self. Giants' colors are now restricted to "movables" - the afghan, slippers, jerseys, hoodies, go-mugs, tree ornaments; need I go on? Surprisingly, the first crack in the wall was a new IKEA desk, in brown-black that does not, under any light, show even the smallest hint of brown. Panels that double as legs, and a thick-looking desktop with absolutely zero in the way of clutter-busters such as drawers, shelves, or doors. Eventually, that got topped off with a black ledge display shelf above the desk, for aforementioned Giants' memorabilia. And he can keep his default white walls - for a little while longer, at any rate! Ha! I'm thinking a nice pale gray with just a touch of blue in it. It will look great with his stuff.
