It doesn't get much more luxurious than silvery blue velvet with a satin border. Santa will need to be sure to wipe his boots before he comes near this one.

Who knew that Christmas could look this chic? We love the red and gray coral hand-painted on a crisp white background, and the shell button closures just put it over the top.

If this isn't luxe, then we don't know what is. No, it's not a fur coat. Your tree will look like it's resting on a blanket of snow with this over-the-top skirt. When Christmas is over, just shake the needles off and toss it over your shoulders for a night on the town.

If one wishes a couture or decorative tree skirt; for large trees use a decorative table cloth (or a blanket as Jan Moyer suggests). If need be, cut it in about thirds and seam together to form a continuous long strip. If not a sewer, use iron-on bonding tape to seam and finish off raw edges. For smaller (table-top) ones, a table runner or even a long garment scarf will work. Loosely wrap it around the bottom of the trunk and fan out at the base of the tree slightly overlapping each section until you have a relaxed look .... not just a circle.
Now if only I could find it in a thrift shop, marked down to, oh, $5.00?
Here we put a round decorative rug under the tree to catch the faling needles. I live in a small space so I also get a small tree usually a pottet one that I transfer to a pretty planter which eliminates the need to hide an unsightly stand.
This year we're celebrating Christmas with children so the tree needs to be a little bigger (Still nowhere near as big as the ones I see in pictures from the US - more like adult height) I came up with a way to still use the planter as a stand. Since it tapers in at the bottom I need to cut 2 circles of plywood with holes in the middle. One larger to fit near the top of the egde and a smaller one to fit lower in the pot to stabilize the tree and then use split apart clothes pins to make the tree stand straight by using the as wedges in the top hole....and of the the workshop to saw.
The picture is a KARDEMUMMA planter from Ikea. Mine has a different pattern but is the same size.
