Although Tatarnikova wanted to make this small space functional for the family of three, she made sure that its history would shine through. Classic, simple-looking materials became a huge priority, including marble counters and white MDF cabinetry. An all-white palette visually enlarges the small space.

The chandelier is a replica of a popular Russian art deco chandelier.

Cabinetry, shelving: painted MDF; countertop: marble; rugs: kilim, from Istanbul

The clients decided to preserve the kitchen's footprint, so Tatarnikova chose extra-small appliances to fit into the tiny space. A forest-green range and oven from Italy nestle perfectly into an existing cabinet nook. Originally the kitchen had no space for a full refrigerator, so Tatarnikova carved out a niche in a former closet.

The designer knew that ready-made furniture would be hard to use in this limited space. Taking precise measurements and designing a custom kitchen table allowed her to save on cabinetry space and fit a small dishwasher and microwave into the custom panels.

A low ceiling made the space feel even smaller, so Tatarnikova chose a glossy white paint to visually lift it. The shine reflects light too, a bonus for a small room with one small window.

Rough Linen The first time I have seen a Moscow kitchen! so neatly put together, with so much fitted in.

samlatricoteuse Is the dishwasher under the table?
scarbowcow My guess is that the dishwasher is next to the stove. Notice the handle going horizontally across the top of the 'cabinet.'

evam The dishwasher looks like it is next to the stove. You can tell by the handle placement.

eureca I love everything about this kitchen, except that I'd want the table to be able to retract when needed.

Dana Veach Attractive, well thought out, functional space...a tiny kitchen that looks efficient and pleasant at the same time!

jojo132 Looks great but looks like it'd be very difficult to prep at the sink, also, if the wall units didn't extend to the worktops it'd give so much more workspace and probably make for a more spacious feel too.

gknee That is the coolest little kitchen, all I'd really need. Love the cabinets, the frige and the neutral color. Bets the diswasher is taking the photo?

Andrew Motorov looks great
some dissonance goes from the wall watch and the teapot - they are hi-tech

matched Lovely! Have seen a kitchen formatted exactly like this one in St. Petersburg BEFORE a renovation. Fabulous job! Great use of space.

msmonotone Where would one stand when loading the dishwasher? Rinsing would be out of the question.

grizzly I like the overall look of this tiny kitchen very much. I would like to have at least three times the square footage though.

sharonmckeague I love the fridge! What kind is it? European?
jojo132 /sharonmckeague It's a Smeg - English I think, they do great retro styles.

frenchdecor @ grizzly Check the window view in first picture, it is an apartment and looks like old one (pipes along wine rack and ceiling), you have what you have, layout changes could be banned. Kitchen looks pretty and quite efficient, though I would not extend cabinets down to the counter top on the right side from the sink to have decent work space.

frenchdecor Did someone notice light switch under the clock? European style, easy to reach for adult (no bending, on arm down hand level) and for toddler too, very wise I think. If I would do major renovation I would certainly move down switches.

ragsangle I love this little kitchen I could cook in there, great use of space and storage, love the way they hid those pipes with the cabinets and a dishwasher to boot! I also like the other pipes that blend into the wall by the window and even a tv in the space! Love the old fashion style appliances too. The table near the window plus the window sill just love this space! So where do they prep ? I assume on the table with a large cutting board? The sink area looks too small for prepping from photos...still it's a great kitchen and not too many steps in that triangle workspace! Just love it!!!

Fine Art & Portraits by Laurel Great job in a small space. Beautiful cabinetry. Smart to make the table counter height for food prep. Love the Italian stove.

Diane Sessler LOVE this kitchen. Timeless, clean and wonderfully layered. How refreshing!

personette Love the cabinet details, and since this is a tiny apartment, my guess is the the amount of entertaining is limited, hence the space is sufficient for one or two people's needs, and the requirements of an unspoiled occupant.

karena Just goes to show you how beautiful and functional a small kitchen can be. The design is brilliant! I love the pop of color with the stove and the rounded SMEG refrigerator. It gives a warmth and comfortable aura.
