Wood. Modern meets art deco in this floor-to-ceiling wood fireplace design. The directional wood grain calls out all the design elements yet stays in the same color palette.

Tip: Replace the firebox surround with a finish that has a touch of bling to boost the glam factor.

Down low. This floor-level fireplace almost disappears visually. The artwork is the focal point, while the fireplace is a detail.

Tip: Paint or tile the interior of the firebox, and the opening will stand out rather than blend in.

Rock. A huge boulder fire pit has a rustic feel but still makes a bold design statement.

Tip: An extra-large rock like this creates more places where guests can sit.

Curvy. Go crazy and install a round door for drama. The brilliant heart wood that scoops underneath the door is the best part of the whole fireplace.

Tip: Install a hearth like this one upside down to create a mantel for extra pizzazz.

Mirrored. This theatrical performance of art nouveau–inspired mirror and copper had me staring in disbelief. What a showstopper!

Tip: Replace the standard mirror with a bronze or smoky version to reduce the heavy reflection.

Pishtaq. This Iranian motif feels at home with many house styles. The straight lines of the coffered wall paneling complement the arched design perfectly.

Tip: Make an interior of this style feel less rustic by exchanging the animals for art and adding jewel-toned paint and perforated chandeliers.

Fire as art. Instead of hanging art on the wall, put up a fireplace that has an amazing art-like quality. Something like this is bound to be pricey but will immediately catch the eye of whoever enters the room.

Tip: This fireplace is perfect for a second home that you don't stay in for too long. Just unplug it and head on out.

Glass. This entertainment unit is expertly balanced by the glass-surrounded fireplace for a pristine example of contemporary design.

Tip: Take the glass toward the ceiling even farther for greater design impact.

Latst pic is most likely ethanol burning firepit. You can't rise the glass. You will not be able to add the liquid at least one of the glass is sliding. Idea is great but not always will work as you wish.

Heather Newman As an illustration of tip #1, we used white Silestone as a surround and hearth both sides of see through fireplace paneled with edge grain black walnut for a clean minimalist look that has the benefit of being fire proof .

deedeelouise There are fabulous fireplaces! We designed this fireplace for our home, including a TV. The 3-sided firebox has a stucco surround, the hearth is about 2 inches off the floor all around, and the wood is stained to match the floor. The other side, facing the breakfast area, provides extra seating.

pattimay deedeelouise you did a lovely job congratulations!
Well done.
May I ask what are your floors? I hear the dark floors are difficult to care for is that true?
I love your dining light.

starsky1199 I agree with Ashto! They look like pieces of moving art, which is fine, but I prefer a real fireplace. Real wood, real heat and a cozy pillow near by to enjoy both!

deedeelouise To pattimay, Thank you for your kind remarks! Our floor is walnut hardwood. It does require more frequent dry mopping, that is if you can't stand seeing the dust. I always said that I would never get a dark floor for that reason, but it really isn't that bad, and oh my, I just love the look!

Dixie Henrie If form follows function, most of these don't look like they could warm up a room.

cflorov These are extraordinary fireplaces but there are also electric fireplaces out there like the ones at www.homemarketdeals.com.

deedeelouise Having a FP that heats up a room is important. But living in the South we just want a FP that warmed our hearts and that's what we have.

cflorov Home Market Deals has sold many AMBIONAIR FLAME electric fireplaces in the South and even Hawaii. AmbionAir Flame electric wall fireplaces can operate without the heater on, for enjoyment whatever the season or the climate. And when you need to warm up, go ahead and use the convenient remote control, selecting your preferred heat setting and the flame effect, from anywhere in your room.
