This pool simply mesmerizes me. A backlit glass trough along the bottom leads the eye to the chandelier at the end. So serene, yet so powerful.

This buffet of eye candy, with a trompe l'oeil ceiling and a faux seashell arching over the pool end, could be a love-it-or-hate-it affair. But you've got to give the designer points for style and imagination.

I don't know where to look first in this Mediterranean-Italian hybrid. The fiber-optic ceiling treatment that simulates a twilight sky? The striped awnings and lush window boxes? The Romeo and Juliet balcony that presides over the scene? I'm not sure I would choose this style, but I wouldn't mind sinking into those sublime layers of excess just once.

Jets. Water slide. Diving board. Full kitchen. TV. Is there any reason to leave?

Stacks of windows, an elevated whirlpool and a dreamy blue ceiling treatment — and, of course, the deer head mounted on the far wall — create a luxurious bathing retreat.

This mod, minimalist pool with its own built-in slide reminds me of those iconic whitewashed houses that you see in photos of Santorini, Greece.

This lagoon-style extravaganza includes a waterfall, slide and saltwater aquarium. And is that a tiki bar I see off to the side? Piña colada, please.

Here's another view of the space. It's just like snorkeling, without those pesky flippers.

If you're a quieter, more restrained sort, the pale colors, sheaths of light and gentle curves of this area will suit you perfectly.

The unexpected formality of this pool is a visual treat. My favorite touch: the row of chandeliers along its length.

Can't choose between a nice long swim and a game of hoops? Have both at once.

A fireplace at one end of the space is the crowning touch on this atrium-style swimming hall.

Surrounded by a framework of cutting-edge industrial architecture, this luminous pool is used primarily by ... wait for it ... the family dog. I know, it made me weep too.
Hojo
Beautiful ceiling trusses and beams crown this simple pool. They must look lovely when they're reflected on the surface of the water.

This eye popper redefines the term "man cave." A grotto shot with jewel-tone lighting, elaborate stone-look surfaces and tropical plants, it's a total break with reality from the rest of the house.

I leave you with perhaps the most visually stunning indoor swimming pool on the planet: Olympia Schwimmhalle in Munich, Germany, built for the 1972 Olympics and now open to the public. I somehow missed the chance to take a dip here during a vacation to Munich this past summer, and I'm still kicking myself. If I ever go back, this will be my first stop.

Kathie Waters Oh, the cave is by far my favorite! What fun to look at this cold winter morning... Suspending my belief first of course. Can't even imagine the cost. Or the HOMES these must be attached to! YIKES!!

logicbutton Mm, yes, I must send this post to my architect with a note that I will be requiring elements of each example in the spa getaway room being planned for me as we speak.

Just kidding, I bet most of these rooms have more square footage than my entire house and cost more to maintain per year than I make in a month.

Casart Coverings Always wanted to go swimming under the evening- lit, night-time sky and now I can visualize it. The grotto reminds me of King Ludwig's Neuschwanstein Castle, where he had a similar one. Oh, to fantasize....Forget Calgon, this is a nice "take me away."

Harcourts Manukau Great designs but as my budget wont stretch that far .. then the best pool in the world is the OCEAN

Karen Pittenger If I were to have an indoor- indoor pool as opposed to and indoor-outdoor pool, I love a grotto. For me, massive candles instead of purple lights.

gobbato//mourtos inc. - space planning & design The Mediterranean-Italian enclosed courtyard pool reminds me of the hotel where we enjoyed some R&R last year, the Palazzo Vecchio boutique hotel in Rethymnon, Crete ...so it's my favourite if I really had to choose ;-)

Fine Art & Portraits by Laurel When I used to paint murals, I tried to steer people away from really trite subjects, like skies on the ceiling. If I had the space and budgets of one of these homes, I'd go for projected videos on the ceiling, so I could have variety and enjoy the aurora borealis one time and an Amazon tree canopy another.

bhomola Wow! Some of these made me laugh, but they are all impressive in their own ways. The formal pool with the chandeliers is very beautiful... I'd be interested in how they change the light bulbs, though:)

sophiakh I like some of them, but many of them just feel like hotel swimming pools. Though many, like said I very nice. One of my favorite indoor pools is still the Hearst Castle blue and golds tiled pool.

sowmya_padki These feel like heaven - the second and third pics, plus the ones with the lagoons feel so dreamy and wonderful. Imagine showing these off the your friends, or dipping into them. Ray look like pure bliss.
