When the weather looks and feels like fall, there's nothing I want to do more than curl up with a book in our reading chair under the warm glow of our arch lamp. Separately, the chair and the lamp are efficient soldiers in the living room, but together, they're a match made in decor heaven, making reading well into the night a cozier affair. Here are a few handsome, stylish duos that should whet your reading and decor appetites.

An antique floor lamp paired with an overstuffed Holly Hunt lounge chair and ottoman transform this tight corner into a cozy and bright reading nook. The black piping and nailhead trim of the chair back add a bit of drama to the set. A monogramed throw makes the seat inviting and warm.

This pair is not for everyone, but for a Manhattan mom with a love of patterns and color, it's just right. The spacious leather armchair from Anthropologie looks and feels buttery soft; it contrasts well with the austere stand and base of the Excel floor lamp. See more of this wildly exhuberant house

An all-white backdrop lets this midcentury modern reading chair and lamp stand out from the scene. The matador chair's color picks up on the room's organic tones.
I'm not sure that I could focus on any reading with this city view in front of me, but at night, Arne Jacobsen's lamp light and Ray Eames' iconic leather seat (and ottoman) could pave the way for hours and hours of reading Cloud Atlas.
Here's a closer look at the Scandinavian-American decor twosome, made all the more delectable in this scene with a cup of tea.

This contemporary glider and low-light lamp make for a hardworking and handsome couple. Low-light lamps, preferably ones with dim features, should be staples in any nursery. On long nights with a fussy baby, the light casts a warm, unobtrusive glow and lets the parent lounge on the glider with a good book while the little one sleeps.

In a room brimming with patterns, this lamp's simple silhouette does its job without much flair — and that's the point. The star of the reading chair and lamp pairing is definitely the soft, indigo seat.

The irregular shape of the oversize, modern reading chair and the lamp's bowl shade and amorphous neck support add unique touches to a mostly neutral bedroom. The chair's roominess lets you spread out with comfort, making it a winning reading chair design in my book.

Bring some fun back into reading by thinking outside the box with your reading chair choice. Here, a homeowner takes the beanbag out of the kids' room and pairs it with a floor lamp. The delightful duo lets you sink into the beanbag for hours on end as you flip through magazine pages from a nearby stack.
A Louis XV-inspired chair and a pharmacy lamp placed next to a soaking tub add class and functionality to a bathroom. The couple rounds out this perfect little sanctuary, allowing you to read a few pages while the kids splash around nearby, or to sit and index point-and-slide your way through a tablet while drawing a warm bath.

I just blogged about some seriously stylish book ends - the best gift for any book lover this christmas: http://homefluffyhome.blog.com/2012/11/13/best-ever-bookends/#
I have a request that involves lighting while reading in bed. I have night stands on either
side of my bed with fairly large lamps that have 3-way light bulbs. I find this unsatisfactory
as I want the light to be less diffused and more directed to what I am reading. I read late
into the night and sometimes fall asleep sitting up so, It would be an advantage for me
to have a cheaper, more effective light. I have tried at least 4 to six book lights, for one
reason or another they are not adequate.
Also, I have looked for desk lamps that can be swiveled or extended, no luck.
I would appreciate and consider any suggestions.
Thank you.

But I think even they (client and designer) realize that it's a pattern heavy room; the client loves pattern and color!
Regarding some of the photos of "reading" iights... I have never found that lamps that project light towards the ceiling work for reading. Maybe it's these old eyes, but I need focused, directed light on the page.
Sorry Cathy, I think this one missed the mark. Loved the first one though, very elegant though my old eyes would probably need a more direct light.
