The cozy fall season has me dreaming of the perfect reading nook. The first thing on my list? A wing chair. It's a great place to nestle in, with the blinders on the side to keep you focused and others at bay.
Wing chairs never really leave the world of interior design, but the latest crop includes a broad variety of design, fabric and scale choices. I find that my personal favorites are always oversized with extra room to hide, but diminutive wing chairs are just as attractive in smaller spaces. The latest versions feature even more of the midcentury modern look, and some sleek contemporary lines, too. Even the classic silhouettes show off a more streamlined look.

Sweeping lines give visual meaning to the feeling of wings, while the skinny legs remind me of a bird. This modern chair needs a corner seat with a view.

Manly styling clues like buttons and an oversized plaid keep this diminutive wing chair from feeling small. A pair in a small study would create a lovely seating area.

Ikea's chair takes the best of midcentury styling and melds it with a classic arm and wing. I just sat in this chair last weekend — it's firm but comfy, with just enough room to rest my head while watching my favorite movie.

A slightly sleeker wing chair cousin in a modern gray leather, this is still full of traditional touches. This chair will unite an eclectic room, pulling together the classic with the modern.

The epitome of a modern wing chair, Jacobsen's Egg Chair continues its return to popularity. I'd love to see them make an extra-large size so I could disappear completely inside its huggable curves.

And I agree with scarbowcow: it seems inevitable (though my beloved grey flannel wing chair was abandoned on a marina, I recovered it).
