The kitchen's original layout and lack of storage made cooking a drag. Despite the limited square footage, the couple wanted to expand the counter space and space for dishes. "Everything was a tight fit," says Johnston.

Perimeter countertops, open shelving and tons of new drawers give the new layout an open feel while packing in plenty of function.

The plate rack above the sink displays a collection of colorful plates while storing them safely. "It adds an element of interest and uniqueness," says Johnston.

The custom clay tile backsplash brings in French country style. Darker grout highlights the tile shape and makes for easy cleaning. Custom copper drawer pulls tie in with the copper farmhouse sink.

Open shelving and glass cabinet doors prevent the kitchen from feeling closed off. A custom hood was designed to blend in with the antique-style cabinetry.

The bottom cabinetry is made up of drawers. A lazy Susan in the corner cabinet helps the clients keep even more dishes or pantry items out of sight. "Using drawers almost exclusively allowed the customers the ability to organize more efficiently and access items easier," Johnston says.

Maintaining a functional kitchen work triangle proved difficult when trying to maximize counter space, but the U-shape format helps keep the sink, stovetop and refrigerator in a layout that works. Wrought iron chairs on casters add to the French country vibe and can be easily moved away to turn the table into additional workspace.

Darzy Very sweet looking kitchen. Love the colorful accessories. New, but looks like it's always been there. I like that.

olldbobbi Great backsplash, but my favorite thing is they used all drawers for their lower cabinets. Smart move. Love the copper sink!

oldie49 Nice kitchen, but sink placement leaves little room to the left-side for washing dishes.

bkdale some nice items but, didn't quite hit the mark. somethings missing. Maybe it's the dard door and window frame. I don't like the tile, too large for the space. I thnk too many colored items and they detach from the overall view.

tradess2012 I am sure the couple went over a million choices to arrive at this lovely, colorful and charming kitchen, nothing seems to have missed the overal picture for a happy cooking and eating world, including the tiles. Job well done!

beesknees2260 Country sink but modern faucet. Tile more of an exotic look. Vent and sink filler look placed high on wall above stove. More of an electric look overall. Thank you I always enjoy other perspectives on putting a home together.

patricia beharry I like this kitchen a lot. Just wish the window was over the sink. Nothing like washing dishes ( a chore that most people hate ), while looking out a window. That said, it is a lovely space.

Mary Katzman I love the backsplash and the pop of colorful pottery!

Bette I'm happy to notice that this kitchen shares different finishes for hardware and fixtures. Just as I was thinking there was some unwritten rule making "matchy" matchy" the only choice. Thanks.

frenchdecor For country kitchen colorful dishes are off, need more warm, earthy touches, accessories. Chairs are dream, I badly want them. Couldn't find the exact style in the website. I use a new name for my French Country kitchen "Casual French kitchen" because it sounds less oxymoron in a multimillion city in North America and I can use freely some non strictly French stuff. Any objections?

indy28 I like the colourful touches but it looks too neat and tidy, like someone spends hours cleaning it and arranging things in it, but not actually using it.

fredericklc Great kitchen. Love the eclectic look that comes from mixing French Country Traditional with color and personal style. The sink is great, the floors even greater. I, too, love the chairs and table. Fabulous.

jyarnevich I love this! I am looking to update my kitchen in a year or so and love the idea of all drawers in lower cabinets. That makes it so much easier to access everything. I also LOVE the backsplash tile. I do have a question though, is the floor hard wood or the tile that looks like wood? I am thinking about getting that type of tile.

lctpdc Nice but the countertop should be a color, perhaps granite that brings in the copper touches? Also - sink should be under window in this case.

judy1857 I love open shelves. I agree about the sink, though. The sink should be under the window and DW where the sink is. And maybe not brown.
