A bright red door means you're halfway there without any decorations. This one uses a star in lieu of a wreath, while a long swag and lighted potted trees frame the door.

Christmas

lisalovesquilts Hi Becky. I have a soft spot for red doors, they're so welcoming. That one is just lovely. As I suspect you love Christmas I will be looking for more of your seasonal articles - have you got a wrapping guide perhaps?

mariahanson I love using live greenery for pots, wreaths and garland on my front porch. I think it says "welcome" in a classic way.

Marji Roy Keeping it simple this year - just a star I made out of PVC pipe. Check Ashbeedesign.com for a tutorial.

melissaskidmore I left all of the fake garland in the boxes this year and went with real cedar and berries! I tied burlap ribbon bows to lanterns for a "natural" feel. And, I included my own childhood sled.

grammy05 We do the Williamsburg theme over our door with fresh pineapple, apples, magnolia leaves and after finishing spraying with a paint to keep shiny . We live in Charleston, SC area and it is warm, but somehow it does fine. We also use real garland around our wrap porch with white lights and also around the door.

victoriabee Beautiful pictures! Unfortunately my naughty doggies tend to munch on greenery so I am limited to decorating outside their reach.

madronatree This picture is from a couple years ago, but it looks quite similar this year. I love seeing everybody's decorations!

The Cavender Diary We painted the door red (Is that cheating? I'm not sure), and made the wreath and garland with FREE scraps from the tree lot...The cow skull? Well, this is Texas!

Valorie Hart Hi Becky, I made my wreath from cast off ornaments by just hot gluing them to a cheap fake green wreath. I added two faux trees and hot glued the same color ornaments, and elevated them in garden urns. I added lights to the wreath and the trees. My front door is 125 years old here in New Orleans. mrsben Hi Becky, am totally admiring these and envy those who do not have to contend with variable weather conditions. Due to the latter and the climate I live in I keep my exterior decorating to a minimum. As an example, I've attached a few photos most taken three years ago. (I am not much of a camera buff, so the photography isn't the best.)

#1 - A photo of our home taken during the evening. (Haven't a clue what setting the camera was, but titling the photo as The Griswolds I think would be appropriate. There isn't really that many lights but the snow is real though!)
#2 - One of our front walkways (we have two) lined with lighted votive candles. (It has since been changed out with interlocking stones but is similar in style. i.e: Pic #4 Come the Spring, plans are to re-face the house.)
#3 - Two paper mache deers dressed in sequined collars and a Xmas ornament, set between two of my largest evergreens. (Actually I do have a whole herd of them that graze on the front lawn .... weather permitting.) Note their plastic booties.
#4 - The same two deers moved to the porch when we have a heavy snowfall.
#5 - A sample of the wreaths which are placed on the front door as well as other locations on the house. Due to our weather elements, I spray most of my outdoor decorations with a good coating of Scotchguard with the exception of the tree ornaments that are plastic and of course the lights.
#6 - A photo of our shrubs that Mother Nature so kindly decorates on occaison with an icy coating.

In closing, hope you enjoyed me sharing my photos of my front porch and giving a brief outline of the challenges one has decorating an exterior when living in a snow belt region in Canada. In a nutshell, flexibility is a must whether it be your front door or not.

patscats2 Here is mine from last year. This year we took some short cuts. Poor hubby was just not up to the full decorating event this year. On the bottom right is my bale of hay decoratred. Can't really see the details but you get the idea. I've decorated it a little different this year and will try to get a photo of it to post.

hrhdiane2 Simple Texas Turquoise. . . we had fun painting this big Texas color on the front door, so we kept the Christmas embellishment sparse.

antoinettekr We have a cottage amongst mansions where we live. I try to honor that coziness by creating a welcoming entry - a sort of Christmas hug. All greenery is from our backyard - cedar and holly.
patscats2 All that fresh greenery is so gorgeous. Where I live fresh greenery would last about a week!!

Victoria Plain and simple, but I decorated the little evergreen with dried flowers and some ivy.
The wreath has little lights, to glow at night and all the windows have 'candle' lights....
We will have construction going in on a few days, so elaborate was not in this year!

Michelle Hi Becky,
Our home, a Cap Cod style house, is nestled in a one acre wooded lot subdivision, with manicured mature gardens and beautiful trees. Most of our neighbors are putting up bright displays of holiday decor, but I like to keep ours simple, concentrating on the inside of the house, as seen on the attached picture. This photo could also be found in my Ideabook: "White Christmas"

Jane Warrick You guys know how to get a GA girl in the Christmas mood... Thanks for sharing all the pics, I love all of them.

black_raven Our door looks great but we have lots of connecting wires to light up the front of the house at night for all the xmas lights. Looks best at night - any ideas for hiding all the cords other than getting more outlets? My husband never looks at the tacky side of things, so I'm usually challenged to find solutions!
amackinney Our first Xmas in our new house and I wanted to keep it simple because the siding and brick work are busy enough. I will have to step it up next year because people have posted so many festive ways of showing their talent and spirit for the holidays.

sweetwist Hi Becky, this idea came as an afterthought because I ran out of fresh greens, so I made a swag with battery operated lights. I have received rave reviews from the neighbors.

kathysyard I decorate heavily under the porch, everything moves in the wind and I enjoy it as much from inside the home as out:)

patscats2 Wow Kathy that is gorgeous. What is the first photo on the top left? Is that the porch or inside the house? It's so full of decorations I can determine what exactly is decorated. It sure is beautiful though.

antoinettekr @mfdonova - I might suggest adding garlands to cover your wires. Your house looks lovely and I totally get the "tacky" hiding need.

suzyfouad the simple striking red cranberries was our go to wreath for many years...but has now faded too much to use. We found this square wreath at Home Depot last year, and got a lot of compliments on it!

millym We have a small town home in KC and can't do it big with lights...so this is our rendition of outdoor holiday decor.
kathysyard that is outside under the porch...I may try more garland next year..it took hours and hours to hang the ornaments on the fish line,,and I don't think anyone notices the wires much..it just blends in with all the icicle lights :)

sweetwist kathysyard- I like the way the lights play on the wire/string: it makes it appear
like a veil to the eye. Great job.

punkypower21 I'm doing a red, white, silver and aqua theme this year, inside and out. The greens to the left and right of the stairs are free tree cuttings from Home Depot. The snowflakes are felt placemats. All we're missing is some real snow!
