The Flap Sofa looks like something you'd find in a gallery space. In white it contributes a sculptural shape without taking away from any artwork.

Edra Flap Sofa - $22,719.00 [ Link ]
The sofa sits atop a tubular metal frame, comes in left- or right-facing models and is available in fabric or leather upholstery. The base is brushed and chromed metal, and the feet are chromed metal with scratchproof aluminum and rubber tips.

If you prefer to push the sofa close to a wall, you can give it a more uniform and traditional look by lining up all of the backrests.

It also has enough presence to occupy the middle of a room. This opens up some unique furniture layout opportunities.

At the edge of a space, it can create a boundary between rooms. Here it separates the living room area from the kitchen area while still keeping things very open (especially when the backrests are reclined all the way).

The piece can take on all sorts of different configurations. When you aren't using it and want to create a clear view out the window or within an open floor plan, you can lay all the backrests flat.

When you want to sit back and watch TV, you can push the backrests back up to the most comfortable angle.

The sofa's curved lines work especially well with this Paul Smith Swirl Rug.

Two Flap Sofas stand up to the scale of this large room and its expansive windows.

Of course, all of these features come at quite a price, but even though this sofa is beyond most of our budgets, it's still fun to enjoy it virtually.

Rough Linen My best friend from school has this sofa in black leather, totally fell in love with it. It is comfortable and versatile, but it is far from an unassuming presence in the room - I feel I need to introduce myself before sitting on it.

rhonnieleder Does anyone know how much it costs and the source?

Becky Harris rhonnie, if you click on the second picture it leads you to information about how to order it.

Dolores Stewart Beautiful, beautiful, but how many folks today can afford to put $23,000 in a sofa?

Lanie Brown This would never work in my taditional/tansitional manor house, but I am emailing the idea book to a client who definitely has a contemporary spin! What a cool sofa!

charleen760 Although the look is what i'm craving for my room the price point would be my entire budget for the room :(

Becky Harris Stewartdam, if you read my words, you'd see that I agree with you. We don't discriminate on prices, low or high, we like to look at everything that is happening in the design world. It's funny, as I thought about the price when I was writing this, I was mentally comparing the sofa to the car and realized I use my sofas much more, and they last longer than my cars.

Brenda Greer Recently saw one of these types of sofas in a furniture store in Leesburg, Fl was really interesting.

S. Anderson I am sorry to say that the Flap Sofa model used in the photo makes the sofa look like the most uncomfortable sofa I have ever seen. The sofa looks visually attractive in the photos but costly and horribly uncomfortable. Perhaps design sometimes gets the better of itself and loses actual usefulness in the process.

txvoodoo I've linked many people to the picture of this sofa with the woman in the purple dress. Reactions have been "is it a crime scene photo?", "Could she LOOK more uncomfortable?" and so on. I have to say, I think the sofa looks awkward and hugely uncomfortable. And the price is utterly absurd. My Southern mother-in-law would say it's for "people with more money than sense."

Becky Harris I hadn't taken a good look at the model's pose in the photo, but that is pretty hilarious. And not all that ladylike ;)

S. Anderson Further, if someone needs to recline like a Sultan in sleeping position on a 22K sofa, maybe they should use the bedroom. In deep recession, such a sofa seems almost Marie Antoinetteish. Not sure how many homes could utitlize or afford such an extravangance. It is however, a very versatile design that is a pleasure to look at.

Diamondflame I wish people would just get over the price issue. This is a design site, not a 'design on a shoestring budget' site. When you design a piece of furniture you sometimes have to compromise on comfort to get the right form and aesthetics. This is clearly a statement piece. But you can still improve the comfort level by using throw pillows. And if you amortize the cost over the lifespan of the sofa it really isn't all that expensive. And the 'wow' factor's gotta be worth something. :)

txvoodoo Diamondflame - I don't have a problem with expensive things. I just like value for the money. I see this sofa as more an art installation, and not an actual sofa. If that's what someone wants, that's fine. But my home isn't a gallery.

Mackenzie Austin Design $30k for leather...and for a few extra bucks you can get Swarovski Crystals in the fabric!
Seriously though, it is an awesome sofa...and while it may not be the majority, there are a lot of people around here who wouldn't bat an eyelash at that price. As for the rest if us...think of it as inspiration.

starline The new price is irrelevant as used ones can come up quite cheap for many high end pieces.I have seen 3 of these sell used for under $3k in Australia over recent years.
Most people can't be bothered to research is more the reality but I guess you have to be really into it.
Maybe I should be thankful as it makes things cheaper for us design nuts who can't afford new.
It needs a bit of room but it's a hot sofa no doubt about that.

Kathy Metzler Even if I could afford it I would NEVER pay that for a Sofa! Never. That is ridiculous. What is it made out of, lambskin? I f it were really large, I mean really large maybe,Good lord!

awinchester Messy looking, uncomfortable and absurdly expensive. Looks uglier than the awful things you find at DFS. Why do rich people give up comfort for strange design?

and "At the edge of a space, it can create a boundary between rooms. Here it separates the living room area from the kitchen area". Big wow, the sofa my sister bought for £40 also creates a boundary, just like any sofa on earth can.
