While doing a bit of online shopping recently, I noticed that many of the products I found at the top kids' retailers were things I would love to see in my own grown-up spaces. Cool modern design, splashes of great color and on-trend products aren't exclusive to Mom and Dad anymore. Here are some of my top picks that will crank up your kids' room a notch — and may even tempt a purchase out of you for your own space. — Danyelle from Dandee Designs

This desk lamp is so chic that I'm surprised I didn't find it at one of those expensive modern retailers. The little bit of wood detailing puts it over the edge.

The clean design of this clock would look great just about anywhere. The fun bubble feature keeps it from getting too serious.

Finally, a growth chart you don't have to tuck behind a door. I think this measuring tape–inspired chart would look lovely in a sewing room too.

Whether you're young or old, you can never have too much storage. This metal medicine-inspired container is perfect for storing anything from craft supplies to bathroom essentials.
The animal head trend is still going strong. This version with a newsprint covering would feel right at home in an office or a library.

I'll never tire of colorful garlands. They make a space feel happy and festive without too much work.
When I first laid eyes on this book rack, I thought it would be a great storage solution for the piles and piles of magazines laying around my place. If your kitchen has the space, it would be a lovely storage option for your prettiest cookbooks too.

With five kids in the house, there is a plethora of children's books everywhere. I love the idea of carving out little spaces on grown-up shelves for something like this to store their favorites.
Children love any kind of fort, tepee or tent. The industrial material of the fabric used on this tepee makes it something you could stand to have out for longer than a single rainy afternoon.

I'm a big fan of the simple black and white color combination. This vinyl ABC decal would not be hiding in my children's rooms.
Can you believe this shelf was found in the "Baby and Child" department? It's so modern and so cool. It's definitely a piece that can be enjoyed by design fans of all ages.

I would happily place a few of these knitted poufs around the family room to cozy things up. The heather gray color keeps it neutral enough to fit in any space.

olldbobbi The measuring tape growth chart would work better for me if it were turned horizontally.

astraea All very cute, except for the red metal storage box that's "medicine inspired", being used for non-medical things. If there ever is an accident in the house, you wouldn't want people running to that box for emergency supplies, only to find "craft supplies or bathroom essentials". It's very dangerous - aesthetics aside - to "repurpose" things that have an important iconic meaning, for something very different .. like medical symbols or skull & crossbones. Find something else to be "whimsical" about!

maeeast Just rec'd this great e-mail with the subject line of "This week on Houzz". Love the World Map Corkboard. Immediately clicked through to Land of Nod website. No longer available. I understand Houzz and the author are not responsible for inventory of other websites, but this seems to be a frequent (and frustrating) challenge from "This week on Houzz".
