A strip of horizontal wood paneling gives this room interest, warmth and major design cachet. And note the windows: no coverings.
by emily jagoda
This one has it all: white walls, natural light, clean lines and big windows. But it would be merely another empty modern space it it weren't for the wall paneled in weathered gray wood.
by Robert Young Architects
This modern eclectic room gets its earthy-chic vibe from the driftwood mantel and all that white.

Where there are knickknacks, they are natural: wood, pods, bones, rocks, shells and grasses.

An accent wall of horizontal wood gives this spare, bright and neutral room a cozy modern cabin vibe.
by Cornerstone Architects
Earthy chic can be more traditional, too. The neutral, earth-tone palette works beautifully with a few ornate pieces and a traditional layout.
by Risinger Homes
This great room is warm and modern, made earthy with exposed wooden beams, a neutral palette and all that natural light.
by Sutton Suzuki Architects
This is modern farmhouse style with an earthy-chic flair. Every material used in here is natural. And everything is set off beautifully by the vanilla-white walls.

Color is not verboten in an earthy-chic room. It just needs to be a color you might readily see in nature, like lavender.
by Mark English Architects, AIA
A cozy, multipatterned room with lots of wood and white. It has depth and lots of personality, but it is fully earthy chic.

This huge modern bedroom has all the right stuff, including a cowhide area rug. What could be more earthy than an animal skin?

This sauna-like bathroom is spare and clean and looks like a spa.
by Sullivan, Goulette & Wilson Ltd. Architects
Touches of wood in an otherwise white and geometric bathroom add interest. The lovely organic line of natural-edge wood is always one of a kind.

A focus on the outside and natural light. This view is almost like a mural.

Marina Klima Goldberg - Klima Design Group This article is great explaining the essence of earthy chic. I liked Jute Interior Design room. The photography of Incorporated (last picture) is very good. Who is the photographer? Thanks for sharing. I feel more clear explaining it to my clients.

Tile-Stones Lovely pictures but just not right for me. My house needs more color and personality! These rooms look a little cold and unfeeling to me.

Anita Roll Murals I love this look and added a few other examples of rooms with plank walls I painted for a rustic feel.

patricia beharry That piece over the fireplace in the third photo is awesome. Here in Grenada there is a wood called Mahoe I try to put a piece in some form in every room.

astraea I'm glad to see a name for my own sense of design style; "earthy chic" .. perhaps with the modifier, "coastal earthy-chic" (LOL). I do take exception with a narrow definition of "neutral tones", because "earthy" isn't just whites, grays, browns & tans! I think that pastels can also channel the colors of nature!

Wish it showed up better, but the walls in my photo are a pale peach, and outside that window is a huge wisteria vine, with lavender flowers in season

k00k I've always been drawn to this style. I never really knew how to refer to it. I've just called it "that kinda Scandanavian euro-clean natural style."

92viadi Excellent addition to the "style" series. It is so helpful to have the elements identified -- it helps us see how to pull a look together and to understand what the problem is when it isn't working!

Thank you!

Faith Towers Media It seems like combining wooden elements with crisp white walls or furniture gives an earthy space more of a chic feel. Here are a few other rooms with a similar look: http://designfixation.blogspot.com/2012/07/white-with-wooden-accents.html

astraea I don't think that stark white walls are particularly "earthy", except in very limited use. There seem to be very few things that are plain white in nature.

rosebud3 I hope the animal skin rug in the last bedroom photo is imitation. Animal skin is best left on the animal. JMHO.

Inis Lovely Nice. Sometimes the earthy look can feel heavy and dark. These rooms show that doesn't have to be the case. I especially love the driftwood mantel.

Carol good to see this as in the process of building a mountain/lake view home with wrapped windows to achieve maximum view. Using driftwood/brown tone laminate, ivory cream/gray/beige granite, stonework, green inset carpet. Want a cream or light ash wall color, have to choose from sherwyn williams colors. Looking at "steamed milk"...anyone have any experience with these tones in our cloudy weather skies? Don't want to be too yellow or too gray or high contrast, to blend in with view better. Live in pacific NW.

ploefff @ rosebud3: My philosophy is - if I'll eat it I have no trouble using it as a rug. I think it's better to utilize the whole animal not just the meat but since I don't eat exotic animals I stick to cow, sheep for decorating and then of course there's the occasional pork scratching.

patricia beharry @ploeff You're a hoot. BTW, it is a gorgeous rug.

deodand Has anyone here ever done a master bedroom wall like pic #5, with large planks? I'd love to know how it's done. I think I just found my husband's favourite decor theme.
