Abraham Lincoln, the Hottest President in Home Decor?
Americans just can't get enough of revered Mr. Lincoln, it seems, with pillows, plates and art to prove it
Houzz Contributor. Hi There! I currently live in a 1920s cottage in Atlanta that I'll describe as "collected."
I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia. I've been writing about design online for quite a few years over at Hatch: The Design Public Blog.

In this U.S. election year, the president who grabbed the most attention was not actually running for office. Historically, he was a great debater, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation and he gave one of the most powerful speeches of all time. Since then he has become one of our most revered presidents, with a massive memorial in Washington, D.C., to prove it. We see him every day on $5 bills and the penny. In Hollywood this year, he hunted vampires and is currently being portrayed by Daniel Day-Lewis. There was even controversy about a potential Lincoln misquote during a Democratic convention. Lincoln has never been hotter.

He may look stoic, but that didn't stop Natalie Ammirato from rendering him in hot pink.

Lincoln's childhood years in a log cabin inspired architect John Lloyd Wright to name his iconic educational toy after the former president. Is it just me, or does looking at this make you want to build one right now? I'm also taken with this packaging; I want to leave it out on a shelf somewhere in my home.

Everyone has this set on their shelves, but I don't know anyone who ever read the whole thing. — my dad
This familiar six-volume set of Lincoln's life by Carl Sandburg is a classic traditional library staple. I can't think of a better time to read these books. If you're hard pressed for time, go see Spielberg's flick and just pretend you read them.

It's pretty amazing to search online for "Abraham Lincoln throw pillow" — there is such a range of options, including one that says, "Lincoln is my homeboy" on it. Personally, I prefer this classic Lincoln portrait, though I don't know if I'd feel comfortable using a respected former president for lumbar support.

Let's end with an inspiring quote from "Honest Abe." If you're tiring of your "Keep Calm and Carry On" print, pull a switcheroo and swap in "Whatever you are, be a good one."

Very creative ideabook! Loved it!
mcd53 - it would be really interesting to see a study of who the most frugal first wives were. It seems the ones we know by name often tended to be big spenders (?). That's something I'd really like to learn more about.
