This sitting room by Joel Kelly Design lets the tapestry shine with neutral colors around it. I don't usually like a muted palette like this, but it allows the tapestry to be the focus — and rightly so.

'Gilded Tapestry' Dinnerware [ Link ]
This Gilded Tapestry place setting by Lenox is a modern take on classic woven patterns. I love the muted tones and earthy colors, which would be a perfect match for my dining room.

Venus de Mylo - EUR 5,750.00 [ Link ]
Frédérique Morrel gives tapestry a whole new funky life. Animal heads, antlers and horns are everywhere in home decor, but I have never seen anything quite like this. Each hand-crafted piece is one of a kind — and comes with a price tag to match.

Bron Armchair [ Link ]
The Bron armchair is hand-carved and upholstered in spun wool Aubusson. I scored my own tapestry chair from Skinner Antiques and Auctions this year for a steal.

Dransfield & Ross Brocade Parrot Pillow - $365.00 [ Link ]
This brocade parrot pillow is a riot of color, flora and fauna. It is sure to fit in any room. I would love to add this to my newly renovated study.

This set of French framed tapestry cartoons makes for a unique and artful wall grouping. The pattern reminds me of my bedroom screen, and these would make a lovely quad hanging over a dresser.

A tapestry in a bathroom? It's certainly one of the last places I would expect to find one, which makes it simply all the better.

French Trunk Covered in Antique Paisley Tapestry [ Link ]
I am not usually a fan of modifying antique trunks from their original states, but in this case, I will make an exception. This French trunk covered in an antique paisley tapestry would look smashing at the end of a bed or in the entryway.

Tapestry Chair [ Link ]
Australian designer Suzie-Stanford (known for her jewelry collections at Paul Smith) has embarked on a new and wonderful project. She has been collecting discarded tapestries that she then snips, sews and magically turns into haphazard, expertly upholstered works of art. C'est magnifique!

Lamb Tapestry Tray - $125.00 [ Link ]
This tapestry-inspired tray from artist Robin King features a little lamb. I love the patina and crackle finish. It is rustic, charming and perfect for serving up some tea or for hanging in a nursery.

French Lovers Platter, Hollyyhock Border - $89.00 [ Link ]
Oh la la, French lovers seem to be a recurring tapestry theme. This oval platter displays a fetching couple engaging in a picnic and some amour. Each one is made to order.
by Robin King Designs
This quirky red room is an eclectic juxtaposition of modern, antique, coral, zebra and tapestry. It's just the kind of room that I would be totally at home in, and I would love to have in my own space.

J'accuse Pillow, Left - $165.00 [ Link ]
Jonathan Adler's J'accuse needlepoint pillows are modern and quirky. They don't strictly interpret classical tapestries, but they are just too fun to ignore. A pair of these would be too perfect on a bed, one for the left and one for the right.

Antique Tapestry from Second Chinese Series of Bouchet [ Link ]
This is antique and perfect for my living room. My husband and I have been on the hunt for a tapestry for some time, and this one is a beauty.

denisemarieb Where can I purchase wall tapestries?
Noelani @denisemarieb you can get tapestries from a variety of places- I often see new ones available at fine carpet stores (locally in Boston, Landry & Arcari, they have some online too). If you are in the market for a vintage or antique, I would take to 1st dibs, ebay, and etsy. I also like to check smaller auction houses. Skinner and Kaminski in Boston have great variety and online sales. Finally, One KIng's Lane has them from time to time in their vintage and market finds sales. Good luck with the hunt!

frenchdecor I adore tapestry. I purchased mine in winter festival and framed it (41"x 32").
@denisemarieb this is Thomas Kinkade's picture, Google his name and check his art and tapestries.

Sonja Hilliard, DVM I just inherited my grandparents German wedding tapestry and had no idea what to do with it. Thanks for the inspiration!

Fine Art & Portraits by Laurel I think tapestries in castles were not only for beauty, but for insulation. They still perform that function and also sound dampening.

denisemarieb Thanks to everyone for their help with finding available tapestries. That being said, the tapestries in the castles for warmth from the cold I feel are not an option for me so I am going to go with a lovely wall-sized wool carpet. I feel it will absorb more sound and look richer than the typical cotton blend tapestries that are widely available. Also, my budget doesn't allow the option of a beautiful old-world, thick tapestry from days of yore!

venetiangrace There are many contemporary tapestry weavers--you can even commission a tapestry just for you. One place to start looking is the American Tapestry Alliance at: . They have a gallery of tapestry artist pages and a healthy membership. I have studied tapestry weaving for over 20 years--it's a wonderful art form, and I am sure you can find a tapestry to meet your taste.

Chelsea McGraw Storybook Murals When my client couldn't find a tapestry with the size or shape to fit the space, I created the illusion with a custom trompe l'oeil mural.

denisemarieb Thanks everyone. I wish I were as talented as you, Chelsea....

Chelsea McGraw Storybook Murals Thanks for the compliment. But you don't have to be. People with their own talents, who love my talents, are the ones who keep me in business. Every artist needs an audience.

bubblyjock @ denise - I've found a couple of Aubusson and tapestries on Ebay - takes a while, but sometimes you'll find a steal if it's slightly wrongly listed. Craigslist and yardsales ditto!

LOVE the Suzie-Stanford chair (inspired to copy using up my own fabric remnants), and that Regency settee is actually a Louis XV settee.
