All I want to do this week is talk about comfort. I've been burning the candle at both ends, and now I'd like an afternoon off with a blanket, my iPad and one of these amazing seating options. European comfort never sacrifices style, so I would feel designworthy while lounging too.
You'll find ample choices here, whether you look to Netherlands maker Artifort or Italian companies DePadova, Living Divani or Alivar. These modern design firms focus on stylish contemporary furnishings and have strong histories in furniture making. Each example featured here includes an element of deconstruction — some of the stuffiness and refinement have been removed from the sofa or chair and replaced with softness and user-friendly features.
Note: You can contact these companies via the distributor or sales info on their websites.

This armchair is based on a saddle but is much more comfortable than a jostling horse. I think this one would require the ottoman for serious relaxation.

This chair has a pillow built right in — the back folds over to create a plush spot just for your sagging head. Cotton fabric adds to the relaxed vibe.

This sofa manages to look completely pulled together but simultaneously urges you to flop down and lounge.

There is a lighter-than-air quality to this sofa that reminds me of puffy white clouds. Full and fluffy, it will add lightness to a living area.

A lounge chair like this reminds me of a big comfortable scoop, just waiting to hold a curving body. The leather finish and clean curves are a clear nod to midcentury style.

A sling chair like this needs little explanation, as it will mold to your form the moment you rest your weary bones.

Rock your way to contentment in this comfortable rocking chair. A leather seat and modern arms with clean lines make it several shades cooler than an old-time rocker.

This classic modern armchair stays relaxed with overstuffed cushioning and soft finishes. I'd like a pair squarely facing each other, with a large stone fireplace nearby.

Rough Linen The chairs are wonderful smart, but there's nothing like being horizontal, so I'd have to opt for the sofas, or even better: bed!

astraea Depending on your flooring (and hardwood is so popular), having an armchair & ottoman both on wheels/casters, can wind up very impractical .. as you roll around the room without meaning to! Neither piece is that heavy .. why have them on wheels?

ddelora I love the look of the Daytona sofa and other similar couches, except they are ALWAYS low back. Unless one is laying down, how does a person sit comfortably? I like the sleek look, but everywhere I shop the sleek styles are always low back and hits you across the lower shoulder blades. Not comfy at all, unless you're 5' - 5' 3". Come on designers - raise the sofa back heights for the rest of us!
