Colorful Doors

I am a big fan of bright, bold front doors. I don't care what the color is (although this sunshine yellow sure is cheerful), as long as it goes zing!

Bright doors go with any kind of architecture, from colonial to modern. And they really punch up a blah facade.

Orange and gray are so pretty together.

Turquoise and gray are also a lovely match.

Glass and Wood

This custom door with a ladder-like glass and wood pattern is modern but also Japan-esque. You can bet that what's behind it is clean and simple.
by FINNE Architects
The geometric pattern on this wood and glass door mimics all the geometric lines in the architecture and landscape, and provides a focal point.

This one-of-a-kind door on pivot hinges is the first statement this house makes. And it is a big one.

Come on in; we have nothing to hide.

Elegant and Understated

You don't have to go flashy. Simplicity is its own statement. This smoked-glass door with a black frame is beautiful.

Another simple beauty that demands to be noticed. This door with its etched number takes its cue from old detectives' offices.

Extra Wide

There is something so generous about an extra-wide door like this one. It invites a crowd.

I love this simple but bold glass door that rotates on off-center pivot hinges. It's like walking into a gallery. But you'd probably want a front gate with a door like this.

Wide and red, like a big grin.

Ornate and Ethnic

There are entire books dedicated to beautiful doors around the world. Why not take a cue from your favorite place and include a little Indian scrollwork or Moroccan filigree, or Spanish colonial peeling paint?

I will hear your confession now, my child.

simps214 These are quite striking-I've never seen the doors on the modern houses!

How sad that I've been living in the city so long that my first thoughts on the glass doors were "Wow they'd be easy to rob". I'm ashamed of myself : P

Mander I have a feeling those hinged doors are going to SCREAM how dated they are in about a decade. Gorgeous doors though, all of them!

mona1964 Love this article, as my front door is the last project to go..i think everything will scream something in the next decade, just yesterday remiscing with a friend about our beautiful blue and yellow themed kitchens about 20 years ago...

Architectural Elements I like this center pivot door we designed and build for an orthodontist office in Seattle.
The office has an industrial backdrop. The door had a side lite built into the frame. The entire structure received a rustic patina and a protective clear coat.

Architectural Elements Here is another center pivot door of the homeowners design. It had a complicated door knob/lock mechanism in the adjacent wall rather than in the door itself. We at Architectural Elements engineered and built the door.

Jan Yatsko I agree with simps214. My first thought with the glass doors was that it would never work in Costa Rica...easy break in. On the other hand, Costa Ricans leave their wooden front doors natural and when I painted my front door paprika orange and lime green the man who created my door cringed.

lovesmesomepitbulls These are all beautiful, and I like how different they are.

My first thought about the hinged doors was: dramatic, but how would I keep the dogs from sneaking out the side opposite me? Ha!

Architectural Elements Here is a dramatic courtyard entrance door in front of a Seattle residence. We constructed the door slab and the overhead lighted soffit from aluminum and the structure and side panels from square tube steel and 3/8" steel plate.

Architectural Elements This pivot door was built by Architectural Elements and the home builder Dovetail Construction. The door was painted a contrasting red color. The house was designed by renowned Seattle architect, Tom Kundig. We at Architectural Elements built extensive metal works for the home. Kelly Tidd I love the color I just painted my front door, it was red for 10 years and I loved it but the blue is just new and fresh.

Retractable Screens, LLC Retractable door screens can be a great addition to front doors. They blend in perfectly with the existing door frame, can be matched in color, and provide insect and solar protection.
