Rough Linen This did make me laugh! I now tend austere and minimal, but I could revert in a bongo beat.

davisbj Why did I sell my Dhurrii rugs?? I love this stuff; wish I hadn't gotten rid of some of my old furniture & things.

Tile-Stones My inner hippie would never spend $500 on a peace sign accent light or wool rug!

miekeh Back in the day, my monthly rent was $43.50. Now you want me to spend $45.00 on a wooden mushroom? By the way, I used to do a lot of macrame, and I'm pretty sure that ivory rug is knitted, not macrame.

Fine Art & Portraits by Laurel I think what you missed was color, flower and paisley prints, and crushed velvet. Mattresses on the floor were our couches. Macrame. Candles (I never had a fire, but a friend did).
We were teenagers, so it was decorating on the cheap: make it yourself or found objects.
In thrift stores I could find Victorian beaded purses, 1920's velvet capes, 1940's bias cut dresses ala Veronica Lake. Felt hats with ostrich feathers. We weren't boring.

sclawson Don't think many true hippies could have afforded these items. Seems more like decor for a rich kid pretending to be hip, which is okay, as long as you know the difference.

AW67 Where are the brick and board bookcases?

kvanlee Celebrate the hipness but don't "dis" or put down,or bastardized the movement. Please acknowledge the absurdity of a $500 peace sign when the movement was a rejection of extreme materialism, and an embracing of peace, love, and Mother Earth.

gwen47 Waterbeds. Shag carpets. Black lights. Free glasses from the filling station. Cheap and free stuff. Stuff we made ourselves. We had a dozen inherited FiestaWare plates before they became chic and gave them away when we moved. And, yes, flowers, very bright colors and brick and board book cases. Very little of this brings back memories and certainly not the prices. Oh, my! This is sort of everything we were protesting.

tizzielish That "macrame" rug looks like a rug made on a loom with all those loops being yarn pulled up carefully to the same length. Once, as a hippie studying in Mexico for a semester, I made a rug that look just like that rug, only it was blue & green and half way thru, I stopped being careful cause I was high all the time and the sooner I was done, the sooner I didn't have to go to rug class anymore. My rug is a perfect hippie rug: half way through all the loops become uneven and they get wilder and wilder as I finished.

I also did plenty of macrame. It's not a macrame rug. How weird that a home furnishing site would make such a mistake.

halleycomet Not only did you completely MISS candles you missed the MOOD CANDLES--what were they actually CALLED? The funky red dipped ones that you focused your thoughts on to get them to flicker or get bigger and smaller?

No guitars?

No Dead posters?

No roach clips?

No tie-dye?

No ice candles? Oh wait covered that above---

No Peter Max?

No scavenged Victorian bits and bobs?

No Tiffany lamps? A bit upscale but those had gone completely OUT of style for the original owners and their grand kids and the hippies found them irresistable.

No beaded door curtains?

No VW hubcaps on the walls?

NOT A SINGLE INDIAN PRINT ANYTHING????

Were you even BORN at that time??????
